Villeneuve: I will have to change
Sauber's Jacques Villeneuve is having trouble with adapting to the new Sauber he has at his disposal. At this week's test it became obvious the team and Jacques have still lots of work to do in the remaining 3 weeks before the new season kicks off. The struggling is in big contrast with the good performance of teammate Felipe Massa
"The electronics for the brakes seem to be different to what I was used to and I will have to adjust my driving style," he explained to Autosport. "I don't think the team can change it to adapt to me. Everything on this car is different (to the 2004 Renault), even the suspension. I even have to adjust the way I change things on the car. Probably a rich team can change the things to suit the driver, but probably here I will have to change. Obviously Felipe knows the car and it has been conceived with his comments, so the car is definitely better for him."
It is a known fact that in current F1 drivers need time to adapt to new cars, without a doubt more than about ten years ago. The Canadian has recently also stated his concerns about the car's performance so far while Felipe Massa topped the timesheets earlier this week.
"The car seems to be better with old tyres," he said. "We are still slow, but it is better because we were very slow last week. Now we are just slow."
It must not be forgot that Massa was a regular driver at Sauber last year and thus knows the car. Contrary to this, Jacques raced three events with Renault last year after being without a drive during the biggest part of 2004.
He can of course compare the car with last year's Renault and it seems yet again to be a big difference.
