Reduced downforce caused Hamilton-Alonso collision

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team discovered that the front wing of Lewis Hamilton's MP4-23 was already broken in the first lap. Because of the reduced downforce, Hamilton was a lot faster in the corner and he hit Fernando Alonso's R28 from the back.
Martin Whitmarsh said : "It was only when I went into the engineers' room and started looking at the details that I realised Lewis's upper front wing had disappeared about two seconds before the accident, so he suddenly lost downforce."
