EU Commissioner for Environment to investigate Valencia GP contract

The Spanish news agency 'EFE' reports that Stavros Dimas, the European Union's Commissioner for Environment, is to investigate possible irregularities in the development of the Valencia street circuit.

"With the hurry, it is possible that El Consell, the Valencian government, has not done its homework regarding transparency and noise. Formula One's speed excess could create serious problems to the Valencian Government to comply with European law."

Dimas will also look into "possible irregularities of the EU's public contract rules in the bidding process."

The urban circuit at Valencia will host the European GP on 24 August. The race has been sold out in only 10 days.
