Kubica thrilled with maiden victory and lead in the championship
It was a historic day at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal as Robert Kubica scored his first ever victory, the first win of his team BMW Sauber and took over the lead in the championship standings. All of this happened at the same track where the Pole last year survived a horror crash.
After the race, Kubica said: "It is fantastic to win for BMW Sauber. We grew up together and thanks to team for providing a good car we managed to do first and second. It's fantastic for me, the team, my country and my fans.
"Winning in Canada where I had big shunt last season and the goal to win a grand prix this season... We have done it and I'm leading the championship, so I hope the team will give me 100 percent support to defend it until last race."
