Heikki is a star in making - Haug

The McLaren Mercedes Team is very happy with the performances of Heikki Kovalainen. The young Finn was the best available driver on the market when McLaren decided to take him in, but nobody expected Heikki to do so well at the side of Lewis Hamilton. This season, he was already several times faster than Lewis and it seems that a prolongation of his contract with the Woking-based team is only a question of time.

Norbert Haug however declared in 'Auto Motor und Sport': "There is still nothing firmly arranged at this time."

But the team is eager to keep Kovalainen. Not only is the Finn a real team player, he also has the speed to make it in F1. "Finally only the speed plays a role. That he has the speed, he already showed on several occasions. And one of his highlights was his pole position at Silverstone."

According to Haug, Kovalainen is a man of the future, who is developing at the moment and who can really make it in the pinnacle of motorsport. "Heikki is a star in making," the Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport concluded.
