RBR declare fire scare was KERS related
Our colleagues at 'autosport' learnt that the fire at the Red Bull Racing factory earlier this week was due to a battery failure from the teams KERS system. Luckily the incident was contained and no one suffered any injuries.
Christian Horner, RBR team principal, stated, "For next year, we are introducing batteries to the cars, which are very high voltage, high technology pieces of equipment. Basically, in a controlled environment we had a battery that basically ran away with itself."
Further Horner added that KERS was still in the R&D stages, with teething problems being inevitable, and that the new systems would not be completely reliable for some time to come.
