Mercs top speed not looking that impressive. That overtake of Bottas over Kuica shows that. If they have an engine advantage over other manufacturers, it must during acceleration phase.
The McLaren is very, very fast in a straight line, isn't it?
Both McLaren and Alfa have very high top speed so it's no wonder Bottas started to drop back when he left the slipstream.

Yeah I think it’s got the acceleration from that Merc engine but it’s also lower drag than the Merc so the clipping doesn’t seem too much of an issue on the MCL35M

So Mercedes is winning the race right now, nice strategy with the hard.

HAM will be able to stay longer and be P1 easily then

Clipping was very visible on the McLaren yesterday. At one time they showed Norris and Hamilton speeds and at the end of the straight Norris started to drop from 330s to 320s due to clipping/harvesting.

Interesting! I missed that.

If he was in 3rd, floating behind Max, I would agree. I’m not so sure now.

Lando is beating Lewis through Parabolica pretty well. Killing any passing attempt.

Charles catching up to those two. Impressive considering he has zero draft, but such is these cars and their (lack of) ability to follow.

Different approach by Hamilton against Norris (And Max and Danny) . They can't afford to have a bang with a non-title contender where a mutual bang between Max and Lewis isn't a problem for either of them (assuming both suffer equally, of course). Interesting little comparison between their approaches to those around them.

Brundle suggesting that Hamilton's rears aren't great. Being sat behind Norris won't be helping his tyre life.

That was a bit dirty by Ocon, which seems on brand.

How long is it since a car other than a Merc, Ferrari, RBR led a race on complete merit like this? 2012?

Ocon should be ok there - or is it only Ferraris that get to do that (ref. Leclerc / Hamilton a coupe of years ago).

Wow, didn't expect it to be so difficult to overtake in low-drag circuit.

Max needs to hope that Danny has to pit before him. Doesn't appear to have enough straight line against that very slippery McLaren.
