can anyone confirm if tire warmers were banned for '09 as part of the cost reduction initiatives.

I hope so, watching the cart drivers on cold tires and full tanks was allways a great sight and allways a great indicator of who was truly the great drivers in the field.

Agreed - I watched the CART race at Long Beach 1998 yesterday. Zanardi out of sequence and out of the pits on cold tryes, full tanks and straight in front of the leaders. Masterful driving to hold them at bay to stop going a lap behind...He then managed to win it from that far back!! Alex Zanardi rules =D>

I hope the warmers are banned and have not heard anything about them for a while..

Did help STR though last year. I suppose it has a delayed effect on cars.

Yes I remeber that vividly, Zanardi, forever 1 of my faves.

Unfortunately, i think the proposed ban on tyre warmers, got canned when the teams realised what the penalty for trying to race on cold tyres would be!

F1Technical - Q+A with Bridgestone's Tetsuro Kobayashi
Why is there such a difference using the wet tyres with the 2009 cars?
"The 2009 aerodynamic regulations have been designed to decrease the amount of downforce available. In the dry, the lost aerodynamic grip has been partially countered by the greater amount of grip from the slicks and the bigger contact patch they have with the track.

"In the wet, the aerodynamic situation is the same, but our tyre specifications have not changed since 2008, so this means there is less overall grip in the wet than previously, and the drivers have to adapt their driving accordingly."

Can Bridgestone do anything to increase grip levels in the wet?
"Historically we have used a different wet compound for Monaco, where higher grip is required due to the smooth nature of this track. We have developed a new wet compound for Monaco in 2009, and we are currently evaluating if it is durable enough to take to other circuits to offer more grip."
Rain - Less df - less tyre grip = mess

Hey guys, I have to bring this up.

When I was watching the race on Sunday early AM here in the States, I found it really difficult to see the tire markings. I thought the green color was nearly invisible. Perhaps it was because of the diminished lighting considering the race time. Or it could've have been the lack of sleep for me. I just think Bridgestone can cut the crap and just use white paint for a better contrast between the tire wall and the stripe on the options.

Even Haug had issues seeing the green stripe, and he was sitting on the pitwall. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Would it be possible (and I guess the answer might be no) to dye the whole tyre a different colour? One option that would require a bit of electronic hackery that I have thought of is green LEDs at the tip of the nose cone - this could make it easier to show that on the timing, which would be a great idea. There are already more complex electronics in the front wings - the variowings.

Good point. I'm growing in my frustration with F1 which is sliding from what, in my opinion shall be. If in edurrance is possible to lit some LEDs on the side of the cars, why F1 is using only a c**p dye? There are other examples but I will stop here. At least they should do it manually, by somebody at the exit of the pitlane, updating the graphics and live timing (similar with old letters B and M for the two tire suppliers).

I think it's just cheaper and far more effective to just paint the white stripe. Why bother with silly and expensive solutions.

Wait!

They could make the options whitewalls.
