Aside from the noticeable change to a slick tyre surface, Bridgestone has taken into account other changes to their new tyres for 2009. Among them will be the addition of a green band on the edge of the sidewalls to distinguish the softer compound, and a non-consecutive compound allocation for each race as well.
Agreed - I watched the CART race at Long Beach 1998 yesterday. Zanardi out of sequence and out of the pits on cold tryes, full tanks and straight in front of the leaders. "The 2009 aerodynamic regulations have been designed to decrease the amount of downforce available. In the dry, the lost aerodynamic grip has been partially countered by the greater amount of grip from the slicks and the bigger contact patch they have with the track.
"In the wet, the aerodynamic situation is the same, but our tyre specifications have not changed since 2008, so this means there is less overall grip in the wet than previously, and the drivers have to adapt their driving accordingly."
Can Bridgestone do anything to increase grip levels in the wet?
"Historically we have used a different wet compound for Monaco, where higher grip is required due to the smooth nature of this track. We have developed a new wet compound for Monaco in 2009, and we are currently evaluating if it is durable enough to take to other circuits to offer more grip."
Good point. I'm growing in my frustration with F1 which is sliding from what, in my opinion shall be. If in edurrance is possible to lit some LEDs on the side of the cars, why F1 is using only a c**p dye? There are other examples but I will stop here. At least they should do it manually, by somebody at the exit of the pitlane, updating the graphics and live timing (similar with old letters B and M for the two tire suppliers).Dukeage wrote:Would it be possible (and I guess the answer might be no) to dye the whole tyre a different colour?
