Its funny some people trying to bring up SIlverstone
If Max had done the same as what Lewis did in Imola, Portagul, Spain, Silverstone and Brazil and just run wide and concede the place to Lewis, THEN he would have had a 32 points in lead now going into the last 3 races
100.
max has to win this championship. I doubt –if he loses the title– that he will sit there and say 'its all bottas' fault'
no. this is racing, and sometimes you get caught up in the ---. its out of your control. No point spending energy on it, you can't grow from that.
But Silverstone was in his control, its not rocket science; if someone is going in hot on a move against you; give some allowance. Don't rely on them to look after your championship lead for you, its not in their interest to think about how you come out of the move. Don't squeeze up to somebody that might have just ever so lightly misjudged it. Give allowance for that, if you don't want to be DNF'd. The ball is in your hands. always. Max decided to fight back hard for the corner, and you guessed it, the car he wanted to dictate space to, wasn't operating in the margins he tries to define. That --- don't play. This is why Carlos Sainz and Max made contact in the sprint in the same scenario except max bailed out before it was too late, cause he was about to get bonked off the track again for trying to throw his weight around in a corner.
as I said, if he loses the title by a few points, he will have to ask himself 'what was in my control, what could I have done differently to get those points that I needed?'
he could've taken the L rather than the risk in Silverstone; he could afford to bring the car and a result home to bag 18 pts. and thats only after having more go's at lewis to get the position back on the next corner, or the next lap, or even in the pits.
Max played himself. he has to learn, a championship is not won in 1 corner or 1 result. when you got 30 pts, just play the game, play your position and win the title. Don't throw it away with trifling moves that you don't need to make. That was Lewis' position; he needed to make some ground and try things, DNFing with an aggressor when you got it all to Lose is just silly.
thankfully it sounds like Marko has spoke some sense to the kid, cause all I heard out of their camp in the last couple weeks was talk about "if max wins the next 2, he can just take p2 finishes " Marko isn't stupid.
