Stupid response from Hughes in that discussion.
Yea, I find that in 2021 I prefer the media to just report what others said and not give their own opinions. Also It would be nice if they didn't make up arbitrary data!
3/4 of reporters and pundits would be out of work though and all the talking points will have been covered fully by like Tuesday after a race

Pundits have the best gig. They just say whatever and get paid for it, fact or not.

If true, it sounds like Pirelli needs better tools or better engineers!

It's a pretty simple and effective device, the only issue is how would they simulate grip via downforce?

Interesting isn't it. Perhaps the teams can extrapolate what it'll be like from comparing previous real world results vs whatever metrics and data this machine gives and has historically given out?

If I was to guess that's exactly what they would do. Although by that point it's pretty late in the day anyway so FP1 might be the place they build their data from.

scarabs responded a few times to the tweet, and mentioned this in one of his responses! To me thats means they would have to be using a laser, but then sand, grit or any other foreign matter would affect the reading.

There must be a bit about this device on DAZN Spain

Wouldn't they just apply a braking force to the "slick" wheel at the front whilst pushing it along. They could then check if there's any slip by comparing it to the freely rolling wheels, or maybe rather check how high the braking force can be before the slick wheel loses traction?

Here's a close up of the screen from the fourth image with some readings:

I suspect it's a manually propelled version of one of these: https://www.airport-suppliers.com/suppl ... ab-sarsys/

I read the page briefly ,and I'm still not sure how that's calculating the coefficient of friction!

For downforce simulation, I am sure they can add weight to the upper surface.
For Sure!!

This is what the drag race guys do: https://www.dragzine.com/tech-stories/a ... ack-meter/

Really not comparable to anything other than your own notes, but it's better than just looking at the surface and guessing.
