Could someone say if the hotter temperature swings it towards one car (or tyre) over the other?

FP1 temps aren't the same as quali or race temps, so FP2 is where we will get a better picture of pace.

That's been a debate all year long, TBH.

Mercedes has a persistent tyre-heating problem, so it should favour them, all else equal, but I bet it's not that simple.

Sector 2 basically 2 long straights and merc .3 off there from Max. This shows they r not running their engine at its full power
And it's not the race engine at the back yet either .. (probably  )

We need to know the speed traps. Maybe Verstappen is gaining all that advantage in the corners.

I see your point, but when that sector has 3 corners, you would think if hes making time in the corners, he would be smashing it in sector 3 where there it runs from turn 9 to turn 16 with no straights of any real length. But Mercedes were faster there.

Yes but not all corners are the same. + There can be different ers deployment and different setup. I don't think Red Bull is running a significantly higher engine mode, it would make them no sense to do it, because they have older engines.

Very true, only time will tell, Max was nearly 5 tenths faster than Valtteri in S2. So we can keep an eye on that gap in that sector as the weekend goes on, that way we will get an answer on who is runnig their PU harder.

Oh yes.

That's quite the eye/eargasm. The exact type of thing that makes you wanna say essere Ferrari

Lewis loosing all time in the middle sector. That is interesting.
Right now he has the fastest 1st sector, and bottas has the fastest 3rd sector while Max has the fastest 2nd sector. So times are kind of all over the place.
Ver had ~2 tenths worth of slipstream on his PB behind alonso.

Please stay on topic.
It's a distasteful envelope created by Sky F1 for the Abu Dhabi GP broadcast, that's on topic.

He was faster in S2 on pretty much every push lap though

Okay I found the top speed data.

Verstappen: 321 km/h
Hamilton: 318 km/h
Perez: 317 km/h
Bottas: 316 km/h

Verstappen had a massive tow from Alonso on his fastest lap. The engine modes are looking similar to me, and Perez is close too. So it looks good for Red Bull as now, but it's only FP1, so anything can happen.
