Okay I found the top speed data.

Verstappen: 321 km/h
Hamilton: 318 km/h
Perez: 317 km/h
Bottas: 316 km/h

Verstappen had a massive tow from Alonso on his fastest lap. The engine modes are looking similar to me, and Perez is close too. So it looks good for Red Bull as now, but it's only FP1, so anything can happen.
Max was consistently faster in S2 though , Also Perez was quicker than the Merc's in S2 also from what I can remember. So I wouldn't put it down to just 1 lap with a big tow.

Hamilton is not using the "rocket" engine for now, but an old and weak one.

So VER needs to be 1s faster for now if he wants to fight for pole

its not that the new engine has some magical higher top speed, the engine is more responsive and accelerate better, in out of corners. We all thinking the new engine gives large top speed over the old engine its not the case. Its not that much as we think but little in out of corners all helps.

So my presumptions seem to be accurate saying that hard C3 tyre will be the main tyre in the race ... thus, bearing in mind it was the medium tyre for the Saudi race and the new sharp kerbs then this leads to at least a 2 stop race strategy on Sunday ...

So traction control? Isn't that illegal?

Hamilton upping the speed now. That was 3 tenths quicker than RedBUll in S2. And thats potentially without the newer engine in

Quick stat off ted. This year Max and Lewis have driven 300k less than the distance of London to New York, and would be separated by 9 seconds

essentially yer, they said (in reference to media and RB), thinking new engine gives a lot of top speed the difference is actually all way around the lap in out corners, acceleration and of course a tiny bit more top speed.

Why take it easy on the practice engine in P2, this is potentially the last time they will be used unless their race engine has a issue tomorrow

Maybe set-up change as he isn't happy so didnt want to do another lap and waste it
