It sounds like the rumours of Domenicali wanting him axed, may be true after all. Sulayem suggested the F1 CEO supported decision.

Come on JaF - it was an inquiry about the logical consistency of one's positions - much like a photo of Tracht was.

Eagerly awaiting the Shampion’s supporters to outline, again nothing was wrong and Masi is taking a holiday, as he was abused by the bad people at Mercedes.
Obviously no race result will be turned, and the The Frog Eyed Bumper Car World Shampion will keep his tainted 1 spot. At least something, no matter as minute has been done. Interesting choice of timing, as well.

I saw this was already reported. Otherwise I would have.
I would not have given you the opportunity Wouter, but someone already beat me to it, too ;)

so what do you think all this means? I find it confusing. some people say he should stay on. but the report says team principles and CEO of F1 were unanimous in supporting these changes.

like i mentioned elsewhere, even if you ignore all of the the 2021 season, numerous incidents pointed to him not being able to do the job properly!

So it's the DTM race director, who was already offered a position as deputy race director by the FIA in November and who was heavily criticized for his decision making in DTM, Freitas from WEC who did an alright job from what i know and Herbie Blash who was already Whiting's deputy race director.

Having watched DTM i really don't know if that guy is an upgrade.
Maybe it was the only way to get Freitas on board… The challenge for F1 is now the amount of races, not everyone wants a “job” that keeps you away from home as long as F1 does during a season… The alternating part screams to me that someone didn’t want to be at every race.

I'm happy with this result. It's the closest we can possibly get to FIA admitting that mistakes were made with this whole affair!

Seen some people suggest that Masi was scapegoated which I don't agree with at all. The whole department was restructured and a new "VAR" department created as well as a plan set in place to re-examine the SC regulations; in other words removing Masi was one of the more minor changes, and one that was as a result of quite a few missteps rather than solely the Abu Dhabi debacle. He did a fine job but made too many high-profile mistakes for such a critical position to be tenable - trust was lost from fans and teams alike

The replacement appointments seem sensible. The splitting of the RD role might introduce some inconsistency on the short-term but overall seems to be the correct move IMO. Using different RDs alternately means: it isn't such a monumental commitment of close to 25 race weekends per year at the very least (more including visits to circuits for certification etc.); it will be easier to replace RDs in future as there will be continuity in the opposite position who would presumably be helpful in training the arriving RD; it lessens the individual's importance and time in the spotlight, an aspect of RD which I believe damaged Masi's ability to carry out the role; and it decreases any potential individual bias of each RD given that bias will always exist. The appointment of a permanent senior advisor in Herbie Blash and also introduction of the Virtual Race Control room is very positive for the prospect of future consistency of rules being applied :)

Ceasing the broadcast of the communications between teams and the FIA is also very good. Hopefully this helps to restore trust from the fans over time. This of course has to be earned back

Quite frankly, all three should be involved every race as a 3-headed council of sorts. Despite F1 being the cash-cow it is, it seems like the FIA are being cheap; not wanting to pay multiple, full-time salaries.

I think people miss-understand the race directors role, he can refer drivers to stewards, however stewards can also investigate on their own

The race directors role is to ensure the race runs, correctly & safely, as per the rules, so no need for a three ‘person’ council, but definitely the need for some assistance!

Yes, if we maintain old-thinking on the matter. I however, do not believe the current structure is the best it can be. There’s too much money at play and too many invested for 1 to be at the head. So rather than limit ourselves into fitting solutions into an existing structure, a rethink of the entirety might be better. A council of 3 at the top who can refer to ‘stewards’ or another body to me is a better. I don’t like it still being under 1 persons directorship.

Although its already been established that the changes had unanimous support from F1 Ceo and team principles.. Ferrari have spoken in full support of the news today and welcomed the changes.

Sorry for those in denial, but the FIA recognise he did do something wrong, maybe Masi knows it too.

Reality has crept in :)
Amazing how good you people are at interpreting things to fit your own bias.
This is a political decision, there is no recognition of fault in their statement.
Masi leaving was certain, his position was untenable after an inconsistent season and the shadow of doubt cast by media, teams and fans from all sides. Admitting fault and dismissing him would just be dumb by FIA.

Not just the 2021 season, he has screwed up multiple times a season since he started!
