Ferrari F1-75

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting that the restrict the cross srction by putting the whole pipe through instead of a coped fit. Maybe it works like a venturi, with the waste-gate helping the transition from restriction to free flow?🤔 Maybe they found a scavenge boost with wastegate pulsing?

Have Ferrari moved their intercooler in the sidepods too?

Ferrari returned back to clearing out the airbox and minimizing it, just like 2019 and 2020. Several design trends are all carefully correlated and to me all of them have to do with reducing overall drag. For now.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

To me (a layman) it looks like separation on the rear surface. Anyone who actually knows what they’re seeing able to comment on the flow vis?

Nope, all good there. Trailing edge separation induces span-wise flow, like this

it's pretty obvious to me they're trying to implement a Meredith Effect with these gills.
The aim being to speed up the airflow to the beam wing and hence improve the groundeffect generated downforce.

Your CFD analysis + the other clues like the spoon wing usage made me come to the same conclusion, they're looking for maximum aero efficiency which makes sense but didn't bring great results in 2019. I feel like at the really sharp end of the grid the teams usually prioritize downforce above all else, and it has worked for Red Bull & Mercedes so far

blocked gills... temporary solution for testing? or do the shapes still help with surface airflow?

Can't make any affirmations, but i suspect it's a winter solution, during the season i expect different bodywork options to optimize 100% of the package available.

Yep, cool temperatures, you can see plenty of teams taping over the gills atm.
