I know radicallity doesn't mean a fast car but I am missing the days when Mclaren brought a radical car like the MP4-18 for example and everyone is like oooohhh. I want to see these days back again where Mclaren is the cream of the crop.
On the other side, a few times I had the feeling that McLaren was trying to close the gap and overtake the competition in one go, with one radical innovation like the blockers, ultraslimfit, u-pods etc. That did not work out well.

Like smallsoldier said of the three radical designs 2 likely will fail. That means that a more “conventional” design, executed very well, would be able to fight for third or second in the championship.

Looking how far Mclaren was down the Williams path, I think it would be would be a great achievement if they are able to pull that off.

Is Lando gonna try fast qualifying runs today or only tests for the rest of the day?

Will Lando have a sandwich after the test or full supper?

Haha.

I hope they get a couple of qualy sims but that's probably the least useful use of their limited remaining time.

I would like to see at least where does this base car stand before the significant upgrade package for race 1.

Man, 3 days and they couldn't solve that damned brake issue, which suggests it runs deeper than just "change brake ducts". Nevermind the pace of the car, I hope we don't have a double dnf here next week. What a disappointment after Barcelona man. It's like we went too high and god slapped us back to reality hard. This test has been very sucky.

I hope at least Daniel is getting better. I have had close people die from covid. Wouldn't take it as lightly as some people seem to take it here. That sh!t is no joke.

its probably full redsign of the interior of the ducting of the brakes, all that I have read its not the brakes that are cooking but the bits and pieces inside, I do wonder if mclaren were trying to do something like in years past by using brake heat to help with tyre temps and it hasnt panned out.

so the 3 days wasnt enough turn around time for R&D and then full remanufacture.

Good 12 lap stint on the C2.
Started in the 1.38s to the 1.39s then the last 3 laps in the 1.40s. Incredible consistency from the last two laps. A 1.40.576 then a 1.40.591

The McLaren is an extreme car. It may look simple but the side pods are the most far forward and have zero undercut. Creating a very very strong outwash then a downwash over the engine cover. I think McLaren are the team who have the best control over floor sealing.

Nothing representative in terms of running fast laps later, the front brakes are quite snatchy atm as they're having to overcool parts to protect others, can't really trail brake late like you'd want on a fast lap until it's solved.

Is that issue affecting the current long run pace?

Lap times of Lando’s long stint with C2’s (I don’t think it counts all the way to the red flag)
