The unassuming and highly interesting time is from Mclaren. Norris did 1m33.191s on C2. From C2 to C4 there is potential 2 seconds, which puts him on par with Verstappen on a C4.

Alfa ran a 32.9 on C3. I think both cars were on low fuel for their C3 runs.

With regard to the quick times posted by Haas during this test; let's not forget that the team will be actively courting sponsors to recover some of the investment lost from Uralkali. So, being near the top of the timesheets this week will do the team no harm in this respect!
Of course, the car may be genuinely quick & we'll find out just how quick by this time next week....

I personally don’t think Merc is sandbagging. Their ugly blob side pods and boat anchor rear wheel situation will be their demise. Certainly Merc sandbagged for years to hide their 2 sec advantage and keep the FIA from taking away their obscene speed while coronating their golden calf 7 times with hollow driver championships, but those days are looooooong over baby! Woohoo! Loving this season already!

Equally Mercedes' concept was not a big surprise either - not for Ferrari at least as they told that they considered it as well, but then abandoned it and went for their current concept.

Notable was that Verstappen lap was later so the track was more favourable, and C4 Leclerc vs C5 for Verstappen.



Hotlapmode on twitter also mentions engine modes, which seems apparent based on todays speed trap.

Hamilton already making up excuses. He said Pirelli tyres are not good. They need more grip. Reality the Mercedes weakest link is fast curves. This car is ill conceived. If the FIA bans their spaceship mirrors this will set them back 2 or 3 tenths slower.
