I'm done, after the 2013-2018 shitshow I was hoping to finally see some real pace and a car good enough to go for podiums again. The only hope for Mclaren will be Audi or Porsche joining the team and helping to produce an actual decent F1 car. They can't do it themselves it seems.

If that is the case I expect once they fix the issue to be up with Red Bull and Ferrari or at least close.

Shows there is plenty room for improvement, not just one elusive problem

I'm not worried yet, its early days and some teams will have their cars more optimised than others, i expect it may take 4-5 races to judge where we stand.

James Key literally said the car is performing as expected, there is nothing else to unlock. It is fundamentally a poor design

Edit: the quote:
"The car itself, the platform is working well. Mechanically, it's fine. Aerodynamically, it does what it's supposed to do. The drivers aren't finding the extremes we had in past years with different rates of balance and difficulty. So it's a lot more consistent in that respect.

That's not what he said at all, that's your interpretation of the quote.

As far as reasons go for why the car is slow, "lack of grip" it's not exactly descriptive.

*** LONG POST AHEAD***

Okey, so I did not want to write right away and I've waited till now to calm my self down and think with a cold head.

First and foremost, I'm hugely disappointed as many of you are here, I've spend the past 30-40 minutes and I've read every comment here since qualy and I've also been trough the team statements, interviews ect and all I can say is that I share your disappointment frustration and feeling of being let down yet again from the team.

This is my 25th season as a F1 fan, from race 1 I got hooked up with Mclaren and never left this team, but it all feels like a de ja vu to me now. We've been here in 2009, 2014, 2017.... and now yet again..... every big rule reset we fall behind, we drop the ball and we are following other teams designs to make our car more competitive, and this is what hurts the most. I know that I'm might be overreacting at the moment a bit, and I know that a bad set up can set you back 1 second per lap in some circuits and vice versa and given what we've seen so far I don't think we are the 2nd team from the back in terms of performance but I can say that from this perspective, a P5 in constructors championship would be a achievement for us this year. Let me go back to the ''we drop the ball and we are following other teams designs to make our car more competitive'' - again this is what hurts me the most, the Mclaren, the team that I fall in love with was the team that every year brought some interesting development or a concept, even when it did not work it still made my heart full as I knew they were pushing to the limit, and my hopes for this season were so high, we had all the elements in place, maybe not for a championship year but for a solid 3rd place with 3-4 victories in place... and to see the team fall like this in pre-season test, to miss the very fundamentals in terms of heat distribution and cooling and then to be unable to do any long runs and set up work is just unacceptable.

Now, I see this season as a make or brake for Mclaren and its ''new'' structure in place under Zak that made us smile a lot more in the past few years than what we were used to. We either going to make a decent comeback, understand this car and develop it to a P5/P4 contender or our team will collapse and we will see people starting to leave as soon as next season. This endeavor will show the true colors of this new PAPAYA Mclaren F1 team, it will give us a sing if we can really count on them or we will wait for a better times to come in the next 3-4 seasons or more, and also this season will show who is a true fan of Mclaren and who only joined to ride the hype trend that was created around this new Mclaren team.

At the end, I don't think the Mercedes engine is the main problem, but it certainly is a part of the puzzle, especially here in Bahrein, and only time will tell what that will bring, it is something that Mclaren has no control of.

In Ron's own words, WE WILL WIN AGAIN

The only questions is, will we be the force behind it? Will Mclaren again be the team that pushed the development limits or will we just follow others until eventually we get things done right.

I honestly don't know what to say. It's disappointing, very disappointing, but let's give it some time before we give up. With the new rules/cars, things can change quite quickly by mid-season.

Ron really missed the mark with those words, but to be honest, I kind of miss the team being a bit bold in their predictions. I feel like they no longer let out words of encouragement like that out of fear of failure.

Don't get me wrong, given the situation, it's perhaps better like this. Today would have hit a lot harder if they had come out and said "We will fight for wins" after Barcelona.

Anyway, in a lot of things, I share your view. I don't wish ill to anyone from the team, and obviously I have no qualifications whatsoever to judge their technical capabilities. Just as a hard fan of this team, I am disappointed. Primarily because of the result, but also because of the recent history. After wandering in the dark for so long, when things started to pick up again, I was filled with optimism that perhaps we were slowly getting the old McLaren back.

But when they appeared to have taken a step back towards the dark again (at least today), it genuinely hurt knowing that we perhaps need to wait longer than we though to get a competitive McLaren again. And you know, I am just a fan of the sport and of the team. If it was painful for me to see them like this today. I imagine for the people actually working for the team it felt even more painful.

Let's just hope they manage to crawl out of it again.

Never, I still have faith, I'm just disappointed that we cant dictate the development path anymore, its what I miss the most about the Mclaren of old. This car has potential, like I've mentioned above, I don't think we are the 2nd slowest team on the grid, give it more time and the pace will come, but I expected a race winning pace this season, thus my disappointment for the lack of at the moment.

Oof man. My expectations were for them to still be the 4th fastest team and I am still bitter. With those sort of expectations you were really setting yourself up for disappointment.
