HAM did that 313km/h helped with the slipstream coming out from GAS`s car, as he was also running with the Bahrein RW spec in FP2, apparently ... in previous qualy runs he did 309km/h constantly so there is some 6km/h speed delta between the Jeddah RW spec and Bahrein one...

I dunno...

I know that these cars generate huge magnetic fields with their MGU's. A bit of inductive heating of various metals may not be crazy far from reality.

I just view any bits of metal on a driver as unsecured projectiles in the event of an accident.
After how many years of these cars presenting this risk?

Nah, it feels to me like someone in the hierarchy has decided to do it for their own reasons. Either it's a RD that doesn't like male jewellery or someone above him who doesn't.
So, you feel that is a personal attack to enforce a current rule? 🤔
I just find the timing interesting. I'd like to know why it's suddenly become an issue for the FIA and their staff. And I think we all know which driver is the most "jewelled up". It could just be a coincidence, and I'm sure it is, but it would be nice to hear why they have suddenly made an issue of it.

My view is Ferrari look slightly ahead here. Same bias towards high downforce over redbull, but the track here seems to be lending itself more positively to that than Jeddah. Ferrari currently faster in both S1 and S3. Redbull faster in S2 and with higher top speed.

Race pace is TIGHT. Honestly not sure of a fave, but Ferrari did it with slightly older tyres so I’d say they look slightly better with tyre deg.

Having said all of that, I’ve seen Charles, max, Carlos and Sergio all comment that it was tricky and that they didn’t get a great lap in, so anyones game.

It is not a new reg, it has been in existence for a considerable time.
It is not as petty as it first seems either. It can catch when a driver is being extracted, it can puncture fireproof clothing, it can be impacted into the body, and it can burn the driver if heated through fireproof cloths.

Not sure when it came out, but I am sure it must be 10 years or more.
I wondered if it was something to do with mick Schumacher and his accident. Doesn’t he wear a necklace?
Maybe he went for an MRI scan and they had to remove various jewellery?

I watched the two practice sessions.
To me, RB looked again super fast on the straight, but with a lot of understeer on the slow corners. Looked a bit like a boat on the last sector. Perez was more off the pace on qualy run than in Jeddah.

The Ferrari were marginally faster although they lost a lot of time relative to the RB in the straight and Sainz was bouncing a lot on some onboards. The car looked very strong on the corner, very neutral through the S3, and as always with a lot of traction out of slow corners.
It has to be taken into account that Leclerc said himself that it's the track where he's the weakest.
Sainz looked more confident with the car and faster than Leclerc.

It has to be said the Alpine's were matching qualy run of the RB in the first half of FP2, as they've got a lot of straight line speed, but do not struggle with the car in slow corner even if there not the fastest.

Deg doesn't seem to be that high? Some drivers reported graining. Could Ferrari (judging by the Jeddah comments) open up a bit to gain some speed in S2?

I think a few factors here are different which make me think redbull will come towards a higher downforce setup rather than Ferrari going lower. Reasons:

-Ferrari is faster in both S1 and S3.
-While slower in S2, the differential isn’t that big
-The 4 DRS zones mean you get ‘the best of both worlds’ in quali and the race
-the final sector is the twistiest, which would give Ferrari an opportunity to gap redbull right before the only overtaking opportunities if the cars characteristics stay as they are currently.

Thoughts?

Looking more deeply into the lap times and sector top speeds, it appears like the Jeddah story line. Verstappen having difficulties on one lap and significantly faster in race trim.

Ferrari reduced the size of the gurney on the rear wing on TV during one of the FP by "shaving" it.
I think you might be right but one of the main advantage of the Ferrari seem to be his tyres deg which will be weakened if they go for a low downforce setup. I would add that idk if the Ferrari can go so much faster on the straight without bouncing more.

Red bull will not go any higher on downforce levels, that much is certain. Reason being they can't get any more load on the front, so they're just understeering everywhere apart from 210+ kmh corners. They're balancing it out as best they can by reducing load on the rear (lower rear wing angles baiscally). This makes them fast on straights but lose a chunk in sector 3. I think pace wise they're more or less in the same situation as bahrain, so a few tenths off ferrari on average.
In Saudi arabia they were better off as the track is very high speed so they were able to take even more rear wing off and not take too much penalty over the lap, while gaining loads on straights. Here there's less straights and more low-medium speed corners where they suffer.

Currently ferrari are clear favourites. Just looking at their onboards the car is hooked up and easy to drive, even with bouncing problems they had in fp2.

^^ Very astute observation regarding loading the front for redbull imho. I hadn’t considered it in the way of them being front limited, and more that this was just a setup direction choice. But yes I think you’re absolutely right - more similar to Bahrain than Saudi, despite the similarities on paper due to the long curvy straight
