Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

More downwash to better seal the floor?
Those fins are for getting more air to the cooling inlet I think.
You may be right. It looks like they are trying to get more air in the lower part of the sidepods openings.

Why is their rear wing mainplane/endplate so much thicker than ferrari or the other teams (regardless of AoA)?
Does Ferrari have a trick manufacturing method to allow for a thinner profile or is there an aero reason behind it?

I suspect Mercedes are perfectly able to make it thinner if they wanted and it is how it is for a specific aero reason.

Don't wanne be the partypooper here, but I must laugh when reading merc will be coming with a b-spec car pretty soon.

How can they if they still haven't understood the bouncing yet!
You assume they don’t understand it.
When drivers and teamboss say they don't, yeah
And when did they say that, Yeah?

Probably. I thought they may try to create a pressurisation zone there. Directly under their sidepod inlet Ferrari creates a pressurisation zone that propagates fowards... maybe Mercedes is trying to do something similar.Hard to say. These profiles probably do not achieve this and you are right.

No its to break up the boundary layer to ensure appropriate airflow to the lower part of the sidepod - the former Merc engineer on youtube already confirmed that for the pervious iteration
