Man, Russell making a habit of beating Lewis. Started 12th now in 5th. Really good job.
George is increasingly looking like the real deal. However a free pit stop (again) and taking a gamble on the hard tyre helped, he’s a lucky boy.
This reminds me of Jenson Button Vs Lewis days. Jenso was often lucky at Mclaren. That Luck then rubbed off onto Lewis in Mercdes amd now it seems to have passed onto George!

George is a step ahead of Lewis. Dont know whats happened with him this year (lewis)
George gained like 2-4 spots because of a yellow flag and had much fresher tires. Did you even watch the race?
Another thing that worked in his favour was the surprising durability of the hard compound tyre, which made the reverse strategy the way to go today in hindsight.
Yep, cant pretend george was some sort of tyre whisperer when the Aston martins were able to go equally long.

Well that’s a change of tune from your posts from the last several years
Still. Given himself a chance with a good starting overtake. Did all he needed to do to convert this into a win
It was a good overtake, but the racing line grid spots were always going to here. You heard the commebts from the drivers about offline grip…
Absolutely. They look totally exhausted too 😂

Was there something Lewis could have done to stop Russel getting a lucky free stop?

IMHO, he's just a better driver all round. Got lucky again with the safety car but overall a better racer with both in the same team. #opinion
Opinion based on verh little evidence 😅
Yawn, no need to be upset over someones opinion when it hurts your idol.

George played a blinder with the hard tyres.

I mean its been well known hes the real deal considering his junior carrier
Agreed, but others have had similarly stellar junior careers and have never really made it in F1.

He started so far back, Merc had to do something different with tires, and it worked out the yellow came out just about when he would have needed replacing. So because of the yellow, he never had to yield the spots to others who pitted before him, and put him on fresher tires than Bottas and Lewis.

This is like an elementary school level of logic to understand this.

Regardless, it was totally improper for Mercedes to delay Russell's promotion by two seasons and potentially cost Russell at least 1 WDC. Totally improper.

Ferrari and Red Bull, to the contrary, used sound and timely promotion policies for Leclerc and Gasly respectively.

It is clear as day that Bottas is a downgrade from Rosberg whereas Russell could be closer to Rosberg's level, and so far is doing quite well perhaps even comparable to the champ Rosberg . A delay was totally untenable.

Hamilton keeps complaining about tyres and force the hand of his engineers to give a quick change and then he stands to lose in case of an event. Russell was adamant to go long and take advantage of an event, which invariably arrives. That's the difference between the two.

Not really, they didnt need George in the team when Lewis and Valteri won WCC comfortably and Lewis easily beat Bottas

Who are these people commentating on F1 TV? They are clueless as to what is happening in the race. My subscription money down the drain. :x

F1 legend John Watson? =D>

+ veteran commentator Ben Edwards, with longtime Racecar Engineering magazine writer Sam Collins in the pits.

You can switch to SKYTV commentary if you prefer, it's called the international channel IIRC.
They were surprised Sainz was in front of Perez after the pit stops. They were even talking about Sainz undercutting Perez when Sainz was 8s in front of him. I am failing to remember now but later they made another invalid comment and looked like they were commentating an F1 race for the first time.

Max was pretty faultless.

Charles think he did as well as he could will be interesting to see the upgrades they being over the next few races.

I think we saw elements of the Lewis of old considering the car he has; Russell did well too yes he made the hard tyres work for him but with his quai was probably a risk worth taking Lewis couldn't afford to. Took a while to get the hards switched for all teams but they did last when they did .

Lewis was on Mediums, george was on hards, not really comparable is it. If anything Lewis should have been in earlier as he dropped off of Bottas quite a lot in the last 5 laps of the first stint

Unacceptable. NOT putting George's interests first. Totally unacceptable.

A subpar Bottas was demonstrably inferior to Rosberg, Button or Alonso. A totally subpar second driver when Russell could have mounted a superb WDC bid. :x :x
