Dare I predict a Merc win? With both Verstappen and Leclerc taking penalties you'd think that Hamilton can overcome whats left of any peeformancedefecit against Perez and Sainz.

Being on the inside also has its risk. I foresee a Red Bull getting pushed out by a Merc, probably an overzealous Russell.
If you're on the inside, how does someone push you out?

And with Ferrari and Red Bull likely to be ahead of Mercedes, any coming together is likely to be between their drivers, surely. Or is this just your usual "Merc-hate"?
Being on the inside on turn 1 leaves you no room if you get pinned by the outside car. Russell has shown to dive bomb on the inside and not leave enough space for the outside car this season. I would say he drives like an asshole, and tries to justify it in post race interviews. I guess you can call it hater, it is what it is. His comments are rather annoying to me, accusing RedBull and Ferrari of cheating the rules, as if Mercedes have taken the high road.

RedBull and Ferrari have kept it clean against each other. It's best to steer clear of the Mercs since they are driving with nothing to lose and just dispatch them during the pitstops.

Wolf have always been political i would take every word he utter with a grain of salt .problem with his assertion is that all cars with merc pu are always at bottom of speed trap at power circuits is that a coincident . is will not be good for mercedes brand to admit they have a weak pu so its better to direct attention to aero.
When Ferrari PU was superior in 2019 , Merc didn't hesitate to admit, so I don't think your logic works here.

the difference with 2019 merc wasn't uncompetitive they were fighting for world champion.and no is not true that they admitted that they were a little behind, merc and redbull colluded and complained in the media about the illegality of ferrari pu.merc did the research on areas were ferrari was breaking the rule and Rbr supplied the data to fia.
it is believed that merc last year had a technology that supercool the engine ,i wonder if that novelty has been outlawed and resulted in them losing some performance

4 gearboxes allowed penalty free. So penalties incoming for Max, Charles, Bottas, Zhou and Mick. https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... %20now.pdf

That is very smart, because they already get penalties for the new PU.

haven't read anything about Alfa taking new engines. If not, I also don't think they'd take a new gearbox this weekend (last one was brought in in Austria).

Indeed, not all will take a new one here. But since Spa is the best track for overtaking of the upcoming 4 tracks better take it in advance. Max his 4th gearbox was taken in Hungary but I guess they don't want to take penalties in Japan so it's either take penalties here or in US.

Imagine if somehow, Spa is not the best for overtaking due to these new regs.

Everyone's rear wings will already be as skinny as they can get away with so DRS will be less effective, plus these cars do not produce such an effective slipstream as they used to.

We've seen many tracks this year where the typical long straights are not actually allowing cars to pass as easily as you'd expect.

Will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Not sure it would feature on the list. It’s not a performance upgrade; rather it’s a change for compliance.

No ERS Honda upgrade as part of the new engines. I’ve not seen confirmation but reports mention Ferrari may give LEC the upgraded ERS with his new unit.

Zhou and Mick already had 4 gearboxes in Hungary
