Well, FP1 on the timing screen looks business as usual.

Doesn't it come down to the order that the penalties are taken? If 5 cars take penalties, being the first one to take the penalty means you start 15th and the last person to take the penalty goes 20th.
Always thought it was the time in quali. Didn’t we see it with sainz and another driver in France?
yep: "If more than one (1) driver is required to start the race from the back of the grid they will be arranged in qualifying practice order."
Ah. I'm sure it used to be based on the order they took the penalty. I wonder when it changed. It makes sense to make it based on pace, I guess.

Well, whilst everybody magically sees Merc winning here, I'd say it appears Sai's race to lose.
Best career opportunity for a win one would say. That is, when Fer doesn't think up the weirdest things.
But it's about time for him ...

Leclerc, Sainz and George only got 1 lap on the Softs so who knows how hard they were pushing after switching from the Hard/Medium.

Lewis didn't get a single lap on the softs.

Max did a series of laps on the softs at the start of the session.

This session is not representative at all but maybe we'll get an indication in FP2...unless it's wet.

You've got to think that Sainz has the best chance, really.

Oh, that. I thought you'd heard something interesting from him about how he was going to approach the weekend.

He's on record saying it would affect them, but not by that much for Mercedes to leapfrog them. Maybe close the gap slightly.

Or not at all.

Guess the race runs might give us a little more clues.

Doesn’t the merc struggle in the cooler weather with getting tyre temps up? Sure I heard sky mention it

Schumacher +20
Bottas +25
Leclerc +25
Norris +30
Verstappen +45
Ocon +60

All >15 = end of grid - will be a quali session in the quali session for those at the back.
Won't they go in order of severity of penalty? IE Ocon will be last because his penalty is largest?

Isn't that the rule for if they don't set a qualifying time?

When multiple drivers have "back of the grid" penalties, the order is decided by the qualifying position
