LEC to be designated as a ‘back of the grid’ starter after all.

Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

AmuS' interpretation of the rules is not correct, as far as I can see. There's also nothing unclear about the gearbox penalties. They don't matter at all for anyone with an engine penalty

I am quite certain VES will get no penalties at all. Nor start.

It should be how i described it here, no? Only difference being that LEC has an additional +5 and might or might not be an end of grid starter as well

What exactly lead to the decision (warning) for Max taking until next morning is anyone's guess, eh? Weird. At least we know it wasn't for nothing but that they just did not show the proper replay of him overtaking someone in the queue.

the first file for Leclerc is "behind" the other one, by the way. So you can find it just by deleting the "_0":

https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... ements.pdf

https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... ents_0.pdf

So he has +15+5+10 so far, but as non of his penalties exceeds +15, he doesn't officially go to the back of the grid. That's what The Race says at least, and I think their interpretation is correct, going by the FIA files.

Well the AMuS journalist was informed that this tactic in fact wasn’t going to work. Since his report came after the others I suppose he asked specifically. I’m guessing Leclerc will have a back of the grid start.

thanks, I missed that tweet

Edit: Adam Cooper says stewards are still "debating", though. So it doesn't seem to be clear:

Huge 2 car crash at Blanchimont in the FIA F3 race, primary and secondary impacts, one car inverted. Both drivers OK fortunately. The new gravel trap did seem to prevent the cars rebounding back onto the track into the path of others which could have been horrendous.

Seems to be no respect for the corner and lack of run off anymore, “I can overtake here in iRacing so why not in real life…”

surely not easy, but there's a chance he can win even starting from 15+, yeah, I'd think so

Yeah so a big setup change for Ferrari relative to yesterday it seems

Also Merc making changes (but not confident since they're splitting downforce levels for FP3)

The F3 crash was a bit nasty because the upside down car was hit by the other one ...

It's amazing that they can't get the penalty stuff right (Bottas getting a penalty for a component they did not change on his car)

Edited it since new penalties came in a few minutes ago:

ICE for Leclerc +5, Schumacher +10 and Zhou +10
TC for Leclerc +5, Schumacher +10 and Zhou +10
MGU-H for Leclerc +5, Schumacher +10 and Zhou +10
MGU-K for Schumacher +10
ES for Verstappen +10
CE for Verstappen +10 and Zhou +10
EX for Leclerc +10

Total in this batch of penalties:
Leclerc +25
Schumacher +40
Zhou +40
Verstappen +20

So Charles goes to the back of the grid without controversy, along with Mick and Zhou, Max was already there.

So as it stands (going by the docs)
PU
Bottas +15

end of grid:
Zhou +40
Norris +50
Schumacher +50
Leclerc +55
Ocon +60
Verstappen +60

On the RNC side:
Bottas +5
Verstappen +5
Leclerc +10
Schumacher +10
Zhou +10

Total for those who are currently not end of grid:
Bottas +20

So sticking to the rules as written [Bottas] would get [his] penalties added to [his] qualifying result [...]

I would expect Leclerc to take even more parts to have a fully new PU and still not having to go to the back because in the rules as written those penalties are not cumulative for the "back of the grid" criterion ... lol

Edit: well the bold part was correct.

Leclerc changes 4 Pu components at once, so I presume that's "back of the grid" (regardless of the order shenanigans that have happened so far)
