Well it is Max's favourite track and he nailed it. Also, 340kph on the first straight is mighty
When he gets DRS, his overspeed will be something like 25-30km/h on a rival without DRS. He is already 10-12km/h up on Ferrari/Merc when all use DRS. To have such a top speed advantage and still be quickest in S2 is remarkable. They must be doing something very clever with the DRS. It's like it stalls the entire car.

So just to be clear, we know the changed the ERS but we don't know the spec right?
.
Right
.
I posted this before. He has the new ERS system. Why else would they take a new PU this weekend?! Read what Marko said.
Horner also said that without it, they would have enough PU's in the pool for the rest of the saison.
.
.
So Red Bull has good reasons for optimism, despite the Verstappen penalty. This should also be the last, Marko hopes:
"Theoretically, that should be enough." For the remaining races, Red Bull plans to get by with the engines already used at Verstappen.

Nothing is mentioned about the new spec ERS. Only that with the current extra PU elements they can take Max to the end of the season. He has taken these before the hom deadline so they can very well be current spec. just to be safe. He doesn't have to take them this year. Only 1 RBPT car has to according to the rules.

With that top speed Max will probably be top 3 after 10 laps, than cruise to p1 if the others make a pitstop.

Does anyone know the difference in the floors between max and Sergio? Any reasoning for this?

Look at the RB18 thread to see the difference between max and sergio's floor. Could be that the floor max is running now wasn't ready in time for Spa on Perez's car; if that's the case maybe he'll get it in a race later on this season eg Monza or Zandvoort

I thought it was Perez that got the updated floor?

the "updated" floor with the ferrari cutout was first seen at silverstone. It's not new

It was first run at silverstone on friday by Verstappen & both cars on the sunday. Both cars had it at Austria, then neither at Hungary & France.

Now it's back but only on Perez's car

Even if journalists/outlets report it's an upgrade, that's not necessarily the case

Teams have to introduce the upgrade into at least one car by the first event AFTER the deadline which is Monza.

If all the cars would have to take a penalty then they have until 5 events after the deadline to introduce it into one car.

All RBPT cars would have to take a penalty so they technically have until COTA to introduce the upgrade into one car.

Edit:

4.3 In order to be registered, a specification upgrade must be used by at least one car powered by the Power Unit Manufacturer no later than:

• the first Event following the deadline specified in the second table of Appendix 3 of the Technical Regulations if at least one car would incur no penalty under art. 28.3 of the Sporting Regulations.

• the fifth Event following the deadline specified in the second table of Appendix 3 of the Technical Regulations if all cars would incur a penalty under art. 28.3 of the Sporting Regulations.

Thnx anyway !

The qualifying defeat at Spa-Francorchamps must give Ferrari something to think about. Red Bull came out of the summer break in top form and dropped Ferrari by six tenths. Now explanations are sought. There are many theories, but which one is correct?

In the first 13 races of the season, Red Bull and Ferrari were neck and neck. "On average, a tenth separates us. Depending on the form of the day and the circumstances, sometimes we are faster, sometimes Red Bull," Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto analyzed the first half of the season. And even if things went really bad for one or the other, there were maybe 0.3 seconds between the two World Cup opponents.

It has never been six tenths. And at all times this weekend at Spa you had the feeling that Max Verstappen had even more up his sleeve than the 0.632 seconds that separated the Dutchman from Carlos Sainz. Sainz let Charles Leclerc pull him in the slipstream. Verstappen and Red Bull didn't need such support at all.

The Red Bulls were 10 km/h faster at top speed without a slipstream. Nevertheless, Verstappen dominated Ferrari's parade sector in the middle part of the track. The championship leader took 0.328 seconds and 0.328 seconds from Leclerc in the ten corners and Sainz 0.357 seconds. Ferrari even had the larger wings on the car.

Is that what a happy pole setter looks like?
What is the impact of the bouncing directive

On Sunday there will be two races between Red Bull and Ferrari. At the head of the starting line-up Carlos Sainz against Sergio Perez. In row eight Max Verstappen against Charles Leclerc.

Ferrari hopes that they have backed the right horse with more downforce. Red Bull had tire wear issues on Friday, which were alleviated somewhat on Saturday but could worsen again with higher temperatures on Sunday.

That leads us to analyze why Ferrari had no chance for the first time this season. The first suspicion: The technical directive against bouncing was enforced for the first time in Spa, and that slowed Ferrari down. There was a suspicion that Ferrari would either have to set its car higher or set it up harder in order to stay below the FIA limit with guard rail wear and vertical oscillations.

Charles Leclerc showed with the spin in the third training session that the Ferrari is not easy to drive.
Red Bull not yet with lightweight chassis

In fact, the Ferrari bounced more than the Red Bull in fast sections. And they also had harder suspension than usual, making it harder to get the tires into their working window.

Leclerc complained on the radio that his car jumped up and down too much in the slow corners. Quite the opposite of how the F1-75 usually behaves. It was usually the car with the most suspension travel and the best mechanical grip.

Ferrari describes these theories as unfounded. Spa is just a race track that plays into the hands of Red Bull. The RB18 is the more efficient car, generates more downforce under the car and can therefore live with smaller wings.

Can the Ferrari drivers keep up better with Red Bull in the race?
Only Verstappen steps out of line

The upgrades that both teams brought to Belgium didn't change that. Ferrari new wings, Red Bull modified sidepods and re-covered wishbones on the rear axle. Nothing has changed in terms of vehicle weight either. Red Bull did not have their lightweight chassis at the start, which should bring two to three tenths on the clock.

Ferrari pointed out that the distance only to Verstappen fell out of line. And the world champion drove on his home track as if from another planet. Compared to Perez you are in the range of normality. And perhaps the race explains the exorbitant difference. When Ferrari realized that Verstappen was unbeatable on a single lap, they put all their cards on tire protection to use this trump card to win on Sunday.
