Sainz turned in at T1 on a slow lap with Bottas pushing directly behind. Narrow miss in the braking zone

To my understanding all the gearbox or sporting penalties do not matter at all for 'back of the grid' starters

checking the starting positions in Spa again, you seem to be right, yeah. Leclerc started ahead of Ocon although he had an additional gearbox penalty, and Ocon not (both had back-of-the-grid engine penalties).

That's what i wanted to point out with an edit but saw that you checked Spa yourself.

The race to look at for non-BOTG penalties and how they're applied is Qatar last year, i remember there being a lengthy discussion and even confusion among the teams.
The other drivers are not moving up a position when a driver gets the penalty applied, they get them all one by one and then the field gets ... condensed for lack of a better term.

It jus amazes me how slow Perez is compared to his teammate, literally since Miami he's been nowhere. But even at that pace he still scores podiums comfortably just by the relative pace of the car.

It jus amazes me how slow Perez is compared to his teammate, literally since Miami he's been nowhere. But even at that pace he still scores podiums comfortably just by the relative pace of the car.

The difference in floors between the RBR cars is a huge disadvantage for Checo.

I think i'm rooting for an Alonso podium this weekend behind Max and Charles. Tough choice, especially for the Fantasy GP predictions of who will bring up that 3rd place. I initially thought russell, but the Mercedes seems to be lacking in pace round here.

No, I'm not you're just proving me right actually, he scores podiums as the car is fast but otherwise he's mediocre - essentially the same as last season. In Austria Perez was fighting with Russell. His teammate could comfortably make an extra pit stop and still was several seconds ahead of him by the end of the race. And then there's Spa where he was absolutely nowhere near the pace. They driving the same machinery mind you.

Just look at the average pace delta from Verstappen to Perez in both the race and in qualifying you'll see what I'm talking about.

I hope the same. But if Russell starts ahead of him then this will be unlikely. Merc has decent race pace even in Spa they were arguably 2nd fastest in race conditions.
