Anyone have the forecast?
The open question. Why would higher track temps support less understeer for Red Bull? Is the theory that the rear tires would lose grip allowing the car to rotate?

if Mercedes is to be believed, it's good news for Red Bull because it will be much warmer today in terms of air temp and track temp. Yesterday was cloudy. Today there won't be a cloud in sight. Sunlight = high track temps.
the overall lighter car (due to sprint fuel load), combined with too cold of a track can suck out the heat from the tire, perhaps they couldn't keep the mediums warm enough, caused the understeer, and skidding simply wore out the tires too quickly, and the more they wear, the less movement of the rubber, the less heat you're able to put in, which kind of explains the gradual increase of Maxes lap times

hotter track temp will take less energy out of the tires allowing them to run harder for longer on heavier fuel load, Merc on the other hand may simply overheat theirs on high fuel load and hotter track, or will not be able to sustain the same laptimes for that long of a period of time
That's very interesting.

and Merc may have been specifically set up for sprint, meaning - they did everything to optimize tires for exactly those conditions, while RB were set up to optimize tires for the full race, so if Merc get chewed up in couple hours, then that is why they suddenly were so quick compared to RB
their gamble is perhaps on being able to be just quick enough to keep the positions in the full race, and maybe hoping for weather to change (not as warm as predicted) and not disadvantage them as much, but considering how easy it seemed be to pass, then they might be in trouble, anyway, will be interesting to see how this pans out

Alonso's pace in the sprint was insane. On the level of Perez and Leclerc

RB didn’t suffer from not getting the tyres in the window, but rather from pure and simple tyre deg.

I fail to see how warmer temps are going to help cure tyre deg.

You’re right, however, that Merc may cook theirs, but then they’re unlikely to run the soft much anyway (if not at all). The hard may become viable if track temps are >50C.

That sounds good for Redbull and may be bad for Mercedes compared to yesterday

Could be a good call if RB sacrificed the sprint and focused on the race day. Wouldnt be the first time they opted for this sort of setup.

Will Buxtons claims track temps up into the 50's today.

51c today
Just 27c yesterday for the sprint.

Indeed the tricky bit is it’s not clear which way it would swing. Normally hotter track has less grip.
