Another little encouraging detail… Last year during Qualifying, maximum speed for McLaren was Norris at 315km/h and Dani with 311km/h… Piastri achieved 322km/h during the morning session… Hopefully signs that the car has shed some of the drag it had last season.
Or it is a sign the team did one qualy-mode glory run and all it got us was fourth overall in a test session.

Common sense will say no… Qualy mode in a green / dusty track? On the first laps of your new / rookie driver? Without any performance setup? On Hard tires?

But, I guess it’s a possibility… We will never know

They made their mind up when they misinterpreted what Stella said during the launch, lol. Everything else is just confirmation of their doomer views.

1 day is ⅓ of this testing session.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

Lando showed only 316 km/h

This is the comparison between Lando and Fernando's fastest lap, Lando basically matches through all the corners and the delta difference is solely coming from the straights. On this run Lando only reaches 314...

* we have zero clue what engine mode, if its just drag, or more fuel, he was also running two massive thermal cameras off the roll hoop

Teams generally seem to usually save quali-style laps for the last day of testing. The first day of testing usually seems to be "does it run"/"did we put something on backwards", and correlation runs (and in Piastri's case "getting used to the car and team" runs), and a bit of running to see if there's anything obviously wrong with the handling.

Just seems like we are a little of a dark horse... All of the so called "media experts' have written McLaren off after just the first day of testing... What is the vibe from the team. They seem to quite enjoy beeing downplayed by the media.

We'll just have to wait and see for the first couple of races.. Am glad though that the new infrastructure is slowly beeing put online.

One question. Why did McLaren rent the old Toyota windtunnel in Köln and not for instance Mecerdes' like AM

Last year the Mercs were detuned in the qualifying session that those numbers come from.

But we are 1kph short of last years fastest qualy speed trap so it is definately a step forward.
But it was still Qualy mode, as little fuel as possible, on the edge… Would be surprised if Piastri was running the engine too hard been his first day and first morning of testing.

Still a good development I think

I agree, I posted the same earlier in the day.

322 is 1kph off last years fastest speed trap in Qualy.

How we compare to others is very much in the air, but what is unquestionable is all these cars are likely a fair bit faster and the Macca is definitely more slippy.

We are 7kph faster than last year and we are not dialled in, got engines turned up or even likely trying to go fast.

It's likely pointless trying to compare teams as we don't have the data this year. But it is clear the car, like all cars, have made a step forward this year.

If there is one to install and test, have you heard of something?
