Combine best sectors for all drivers and sainz would be P3.. his sector 1 on his last push lap was extremely bad despite the extra prep lap. Still suffered with cold tyres
Really big weakness for conditions like this
True about Aston, but is the comp with RB that really highlights the awful work done by Ferrari. When you factor in the additional DRS Ferrari probably improved by only 0.25s YOY (maybe a bit more with a clean lap from Charles which was screwed even in quali today and that really shows how even worse Ferrari is at managing tight situations).LM10 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 13:58This F1 analysis guy should have analyzed a bit more before posting wrong numbers. Last year Aston Martin already in FP2 was half a second faster than in Qualifying. In FP3 both cars crashed with Vettel having heavy damage. In Q1 Stroll’s car was ready 2 minutes before end of session and immediately crashed again (crash with Latifi). In the meantime the repairs on Vettel’s car finished and he did a single lap in Q1, but obviously too slow without any preparation.
It’s also to be expected that Ferrari, having gotten pole comfortably last season, would have a less of a performance gain than for example Aston Martin which had a dog of a car at the beginning of last season before starting to copy RedBull’s concept.
I know pretty well that Ferrari’s current performance is way too bad, btw. They need to get their act together as soon as possible.
Unbelievable that there are still people defending Binotto—he really did leave a turd of car and race management behind as his legacy. Not to mention the cheater engine saga. A man with no vision, no leadership and mostly not smart enough, and yet named himself TD as well as TP.
Every other team is working on race setup—just read the Autosport story on Merc’s qualifying turn-around for example.f1316 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 17:55Sainz says that they have specifically set the car up for the race. He also lost a couple of tenths in S1 that cost him 3rd because he slowed down too much to let people by on prep lap.
For Charles he didn’t do a second prep lap because they thought rain was coming and that cost him.
Honestly that was not a ‘normal’ qualifying so we shouldn’t necessarily say this is the ‘real’ one lap picture and the previous weekends for Charles flattering - if anything this cold and green track is the outlier.
Let’s see if they really did sacrifice some quali speed for race pace before we make any more proclamations. If they have 2nd fastest race pace tomorrow then you’d have to say it’s worth the poor qualifying.
