5th in constructors, not a bad place to be in, before the Baku upgrade 😁

Landos pace was pretty good today the car seems to be rapid in the final sector but loses out on the straights even with drs, was surprised how long it took Perez to get past

Yep the areas it was deficient in last year have certainly been upgraded but it comes with one hell of a drag penalty

Think it showed the focus is in setting it up fir races to make the most out of it. Unfortunately the first 2 races had problems.

This wad the first time to show, it was OK. Not good or great, but OK. Lando was not behind anyone you wouldn't expect to be behind, after his good work on Hulk.

it’s astonishing even with drs open it was getting passed easily makes you wonder how the cars so draggy in the first place

It was an interesting race, finally some luck goes our way (my favorite bad luck was part of Piastri's wing missing the whole field and then hitting Lando's cars).

The car was probably slower than Alpine, but it was faster than Haas, Alfa, AT and Williams. So realistically 6th fastest car at the moment. Haas may be better in qualifying trim.

I'm hoping the team can start running the car with a smaller rear wing as having this kind of deficit on the straights makes it a nightmare to race from the back. You either have to have a good qualifying car or you need a car that can overtake. Having a slow qualy car which cannot overtake as it is slow on the straights is a nightmare.

Daniel was having a great run in 2020 but Mclaren got greedy. They didn’t NEED someone like Daniel because they had Norris. They should have signed Hulkenberg instead. That would have save both Hulk and Daniel’s careers. Norris is the show piece. Hulk is the reliable P5-P8 points scorer.
This is an interesting alternative history idea but I think the problem was that the team was not sure Lando was a top level car at that moment. But just imagine if Hulkenberg signed up and went on to win at Monza like Ricciardo did.

By the way - Hulkenberg looks to be more adaptable than Ricciardo as he did all those super subs during Covid and usually was half decent immediately.

Ok guys! Not bad race for us. We have a race pace, yeah. First clean race for McLaren. I’m satisfied 🙂

We have race pace, but boy is the car slow in a straight line! Both cars struggled to get past other cars, even when they had DRS.

Guess it's just about maximising what we have. It didn't seem easy for many to overtake, even with drs.

Well except for RedBull, they were rocket ships with drs open.

Btw, after one of the Alpine idiots took out Oscar and Lando the other week, it was so nice of them to take each other out and give our boys some valuable points.

Yep good result in the end. Lando drove great and Oscar was solid. Now if we can just get rid of some drag without sacrificing other areas of performance that would be nice!

Interesting comments from Horner on Zak, Dan and his time at McLaren. Wonder what bad habits they are referring to from his McLaren stint and what they have seen in the RBR sim.

Hopefully Oscar and Lando can get a clean run at it today and the race pace is alot better than qualli. Would be nice to get on the board with some points.
This is nothing more than Horner being Horner, throwing dirt at rivals, including Renault. Zak was wise enough not to fall for it.
Ricciardo doesn’t even do simulator work, he’s only a marketing driver 😂 Horner is just being Horner.

Norris best of the rest in wdc, team is 5th in constructors. Not bad in what many here would call a shitbox

Of course required great deal of luck and others to dnf, but maximizing results is what you want from drivers and they kept their noses clean.

He absolutely does do simulators work for RedBull, and it’s not just Horner that says so.
