The sensor picks up movement doesn’t it?

Penalty are only for others drives, like Carlos 5 sec. Don’t expect FIA to punish Max. They never do.
Sensor might not have triggered, but the tire contact patch is very clearly on the white line.
Which is allowed. You must not contact ahead of the white line. Hovering is fine.
So what about Gasly's case?

Toto's already confirmed they looked into it and there's nothing wrong.

Can hardly tell from this angle. For Max there's a side angle which shows his front left is squarely on the white line.

Max is definitely OK, Gasly is a bit more marginal but I believe he is fine as well.

I agree, 5 sec penalty is just a big joke.
Well leclerc caused his own retirement by turning into Lance mid corner. Lance couldn't have avoided him. Sainz on the other hand did a semi divebomb from behind
A semi divebomb? Whatever that is? Watch it back and there’s basically nowhere for him to go. It’s a racing incident
if there was a wall there sainz would have cut the corner tighter .but since it was a car that happened to be the one that he needed to get past he didnt. not saying that he did it intentionally, but being too competitive to need to avoid other cars isnt an excuse. look at the overhead view, he drove straight into him with plenty of room on the inside to avoid, he just didnt feel the need to.

here are the current rules, from the 2023 sporting regulations:

"In all cases the order will be taken at the last point at which it was possible to determine the position of all cars. All such cars will then be permitted to resume the sprint session or the race."

So imo the one they finished with is clearly incorrect.
thinking about it, maybe the emphasis is on "all cars" there, and Sargeant probably didn't go any further than mini sector 1, if at all.
the live timing replay is available now. Everyone made it to minisector #2, so as far as I can see, this should have been the restart order then (minus crashed cars):

so Hülkenberg ahead of Norris, and Tsunoda ahead of PIA and ZHO

Does anyone remember in the Silverstone case whether it was because they didn't reach a mini sector or an entire sector?

Seems like Lewis' criticism of the tyre warmer ban has been vindicated then with both Max and 'Nando criticising the FIA for having the teams restart on cold tyres.

Cold tire restarts will just cause spectacle. Which is what sells F1. At the cost of the drivers. And making it all more a gamble who will win. We could end up like Indycar.

If they ban tire warmers then tyres should be much softer.

I think back then it was like today, while in Bahrain (when Grosjean crashed) they used the mini sector to set the order for the restart. No idea why there was a difference. From the wording of the rules, using the mini sector would make more sense.

Spectacular own goal for entertainment purposes that ending. Just a farcical show nowadays.

As for the race, despite the nonsense, it was predictably a dominant win from Max. Looked bored when going on the grass.

Superb drives from Hamilton & Gasly (pre crash)
