This MP4-2 Indy car livery surely has to make a special appearance this year on the MCL60
I know that I am colour blind. But weren’t the MP4-2 Marlboro red/white? I mean, either go all the way, or just don’t. It doesn’t really represent anything this way.

The red was part of the Phillip Morris sponsorship colours, they probably can’t use that.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

McLaren have been running special liveries the last couple years id imagine they’ll do one for the triple crown though I’d imagine not to the extent of Indy

For beautiful McLaren nostalgia on YouTube JayEmm (James Martin) is privileged to sit in with Steve Nicholls, Matthew Jeffreys and Frank Dernie with the MP4/4.

The latest “Engineer’s Cut” uploaded this week is over two hours on the build, Prost, Lauda, Senna and a load of great stories that highlight the era of McLaren domination by three engineers who clearly are delighted to be back together.

Oh that McLaren find their way back to something like winning ways.

I'd love to see that middle one (white/papaya) on the MCL60 in Monaco! 🙏

Edit: Norris agrees!

The red was part of the Phillip Morris sponsorship colours, they probably can’t use that.
Plus the fact that anything resembling the malboro logo can’t be used in F1, hence the change of the mission winnow logo to green for Ferraris 21 car.
Using papaya, they can probably just about get away with it.

Why can't red and white be for Coca Cola?
I was thinking this for a while now but if the other teams drawn the top aero people from the grid, could we choose some people from the aeronautics like SpaceX,Boeing, etc?

Because they don't pay us to do that :)

There used to be some crossover with BAE quite some time ago, I'm not sure if it still happens.

The red and white, if put into the "arrow" type shape of Marlboro is also controlled in regard to advertising tobacco product. The tobacco manufacturers were, before initial word display ban, cultivating the graphic only display to partly circumvent the expected banning, ultimately making legislation conscious of this aspect too. Its a very finely drawn legal line for some country and broadcast coverage.

Outside industry skill sets, often drawn on in their history, carbon based chassis and "j type " inerta dampers being two notable contributing technologies arriving from different fields of experience, both brought in by mclaren.
Significant issues now being time/budget/testing etc all really forcing the teams toward a more common approach. They, promoters, want team operational and driver skills to be more the differential aspect in making the championship rather than innovation in it's pure form.

McLaren have confirmed already that they were on a recruitment drive for more aero staff.

Sanchez is incoming from Ferrari, however if reports are to believed then engineers are joining from Ferrari (albeit could this just be Sanchez), Red Bull and Aston Martin

Absolutely. That should be our permanent livery FOREVER!

As much as I love the spl edition Indy liveries, it would be a non starter on the MCL60 because of the weight penalty. The black bits are a must and they would ruin the two colored liveries. Unless it is Monaco so weight won't really matter.
