Good drive from both.

The Hard - medium was definitely the way to go today. Good recovery from a poor quali for Lewis. Credit
It’ll be interesting to compare the pace today Vs Alonso and sainz. 2nd fastest might be a push, but 3rd is a decent call
The car is arguably the second fastest car on a Sunday, it's nowhere near as bad as people make out.
Russell was well on the pace with Alonso in clear air and was clearly superior to Sainz as he passed him.

Due to the rain in the night and cloud cover today the conditions were quite different to yesterday.
Possibly the conditions suited the merc better, or merc did a better management job. The other possibility is the drivers came into their own today
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

This car has some good race pace. But alas both drivers struggle to find consistency over one lap. Was George last week and Lewis this week. Won't be too long before we see a double knockout in Q2 or God forbid Q1...
They’ve had this quali problem for years now. That is why they introduced DAS. The car just does not warm up its tires well but it has good tire wear. Its useless having good tire wear if you are going to be outqualified by a Haas though.

Hamilton had the car to possibly secure 5th, he spent way too long behind Albon & Hulkenberg, it will have cost him seconds in race time.

Hamilton has lost his edge somewhat.
I saw it last year as well, he isn't interested in fighting too hard unless it's for a podium it seems.

He needs sitting down and told some home truths, what was that all about when he said he didn't think they can finish? Just drive the damn wheels off the car man!

Sainz was nearly 9 seconds ahead, and that's after accounting for his 5-sec penalty.

P5 would have only been in play had Lewis been able to make his T1 move on Albon stick. And even then, the early race DRS train spanned like 4 or 5 cars, so he would have still been stuck to some extent.

It was also clear from both drivers that the car was far more driveable as it got lighter. Merc wasn't really competitive on high fuel load. Russell got gapped by ALO/SAI and Hamilton was tentative under braking against the likes of HUL and ALB.

Maybe they could have pitted Lewis earlier onto the mediums to get more pace with the softer tyres knowing Sainz had +5 penalty?
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Nuance isn’t his strong suit. Lewis had a good recovery drive given the DRS train he’s been in for quite a while.

He’s also saying Merc has the second best car which would mean his golden boy George underperformed finishing behind Alonso. Which is both nonsense obviously, George got the best possible result and Aston is simply quicker right now. They have 4 podiums vs that one from Lewis.

Please don't try to reason with this guy. 90 % of his posts in the race thread and this thread have obsessively been about what Hamilton is doing wrong, and he will find yet another in this post of yours no matter how factually true it is. The mods have taken notice already.

Stick with me son and you'll go far, what DRS train was Hamilton in when he was stuck behind Hulkenberg for several laps? And, you clearly didn't read my post properly, I said the car is arguably second best on a Sunday, but, qualifying makes a difference, Russell had to work his way through traffic, Alonso didn't, do keep up son.

Like birds of a feather.

Face it, Hamilton didn't get started until 40 laps in, had he cleared the cars earlier be could have challenged Sainz.

It isn't as easy to clear the cars in this Mercedes with a limited top speed in straight line. He let Russel pass as his teammate had trouble to clear him fair and square despite having fresher tyres.
