That's a good comparison of front suspension geometry there. Looks like a "cross-beam" type top link fitted to the Monaco spec chassis.

Could do with being repeated in W14 thread as fundamental detail.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes takes a step back with the new car. Every new package requires some time to understand and then comes the setting it up right through the lessons learnt and finally the phase where they can see the expected performance.

My bet would be either Alonso or Charles for pole and the race win. Max need to firmly believe that he is going to get only one run in Q3 and that is at the beginning of it, so he should bolt his best time in that attempt.

I would like to see Alonso take provisional pole at the first runs and do something cheeky to cause a yellow flag.

I don't think this is a particularly good track for either Red Bull or Ferrari at least, and the last time we didn't race on a freshly tarmacked flat track (Melbourne), Hamilton and Russell were 2nd and 3rd already.

Remember last year, RB and Ferrari fighting for pole while Mercedes was behind Alpine and McLaren. They have issue with tire warming and on street circuit it's even bigger issue. Things haven't changed so much.

I haven't noticed this "low tyre wear -> struggling to fire up" pattern at Mercedes so far this year. But sure, it has never really been their best track either in the past couple of years.

Front suspension: The top wishbone forward leg inboard pick-up has been lifted. This change results in improved positioning of wishbone wake, which in turn improves onset flow into the sidepod, therefore improving cooling performance.

Floor Fences: There has been a local load change in fence camber, which results in an increased local load and improved flow to the diffuser. This should deliver more rear downforce.

Sidepod inlet: A wide and high sidepod inlet helps improve flow to the floor edge, which results in more floor load and also improved flow to the rear corner.

Sidepods and bodywork: The increased bodywork width increases local downforce and also improves the flow to the rear wing assembly and rear corner.

Rear wing: The increased camber of the rear wing flap results in increased rear wing load, which in turn drops the pressure behind the car - thereby increasing rear floor load.

Rear brake duct winglets: A second cascade of cake-tin winglets added to the additional winglet array adds local winglet load. This also drops the pressure behind the lower suspension legs, increasing load on these too.

Doubtful to be game changing, or change the landscape this season. Bit of a hype job surrounding this, purely in the hope by many, that it ignites this dull season.

Re: Mercedes Upgrades

Social media and reddit (cess pits of humanity) seem to fall into two areas of thinking about these upgrades:

• Upgrades will give Merc wins

• If upgrades don't give Merc wins its a total failure

I cant help but put blame on Merc themselves with 'Letters to the fans' the expectation is completely wrong. For a team to catch up and meet a team that has the advantage would need a lucky loop-hole or completely new idea for that to happen.

And those thinking that if it doesn't make them instantly on RBR then its a failure are also wrong, it takes time.

It really does help knowing formula 1 for a long long time, because it helps you temper expectations and not be so emotional.

The flip side is, it makes this race utterly terrible, yet another snooze fest Monaco. We are all sick of it now.

Its from Toto/Hamilton Textbook... moan whenever you can to show yourself as hero because in the end you always win with that car.
