As they said, they did it "just to make sure they didn't miss anything". If it was the golden bullet, they'd have just done a big-pod conversion and left everything else the same and suddenly been up there with the Bulls. But in reality, it's the suspension and the floor that's where the big performance is to be found. This issue wasn't with the sidepods, it was with controlling the floor's flow dynamics.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

They're in face saving "strat" really, that's MB :D

They proved conclusively to themselves with all of their own monitoring tools, simulation etc, etc, that they couldn't get it to do what they thought they saw during design phase.

Ending with a chassis so compromised (again their view of it) that it cant be modified, needs new chassis/concept next year to fundamentally fix this. This in regard to driver position, ancillary package design etc, and all to be, ultimately, scrapped in 24 design. There's not a more dammed view that can be presented from this.

Admiral in his personal qualities, James Allison didn't throw Mike Elliot under the bus and apportion blame in that direction. I think it's a very, very good way to treat an employee at whichever level they are, there's a lot in ME but maybe not a cutting edge successful lead design of that car is one of them. An appreciation of any employee and utilisation of those attributes in the company, as in this period of MB, is the right way of going about running a cohesive and open company.

The remaining architecture of W14 is acknowledged as too compromised to achieve ongoing competitiveness (as a result of supporting that no-pod concept) such that it shows the original concept was a failure.

Equally, if the floor etc had not been hindered by that side pod design it wouldn't now be considered as being close to front of midfield pace. A simple shift away from zero and it appears to have come alive.

Personally I think that Elliot thought that the zeropod concept was the 99% solution. However that 99% was only able to be extracted 25% of the time. The current meta of cars is probably the 90% solution but can be extracted 90% of the time. The porpoising phenomenon probably threw a fatal wrench on the zeropod concept

This sort of thing happens in companies all the time, appreciation of skills, knowledge etc, then placing them most effectively is just part of management task in being successful.

JA & ME have more or less said this in their own voice, about evaluation of their own attributes within the organisation, thats no secret. Honestly open critique straight from the two involved I feel.

Something a more long term results organisation may not see so acutely in this time frame, but one which attract many of us a viewers to F1, is the relentless test against similar organisation in the crucible of timed competition. There really is nowhere to hide, it's "put up or shut up" at every race weekend, no marketing b*llox can make a difference, you've either won or you haven't.

It was good to see JA with a smile and twinkle in his eyes when describing how much fun it was to chase the others down in this heated competition. I like that attitude and drive, makes the races more interesting to watch whomsoever may win.

Looking to be close this weekend, two races to enjoy too.

Not at all, I understand and believe the contribution that makes.

Others on here, and elsewhere, are adamant that it's not all its cracked up to be. Some need to make up their mind of the contribution that makes.

Interesting that of all the bits that have been changed are given (for whatever reason I'm not sure) as not contributing to poor performance, yet they've been changed......and the whole team from top to bottom is singing the same tune...in light of solid progress and more accomplished direction is to where they are now.

It would seem facile to say the components removed didn't have a direct influence on poor performance since W13 issue in reality.

Accuweather has a yellow warning for thunderstorms around the track on Friday from 16:00hrs. Still looking like showers on the Saturday and clear on the Sunday.

Packed a light rain coat just in case :D


Does anyone know what time show and tell is released?

It is a light orange raincoat actually! haha.

Row 15 of Grandstand L on the long straight, just after the advertising bridge I believe. Most likely blend in with the sea of orange that Austria normally gets.
