It was pretty clear that ALO will use the old floor. Krack said that they have to test new against old. STR had no FP1, so he will have the new parts in FP2.

Alo had terrible luck, both times he had a purple sector a red flag screwed his laps and both times he was in the last sector, just incredible luck, but a P5 is the best qualifying result Aston Martin has had since Canada, upgrades have worked so there is reason to be happy.

I think both McLarens made tons of errors in their laps, so their positions/deltas are not entirely representative

It's the best qualifying result since Canada, don't be that sad. Williams was also ahead in Silverstone but this time instead of Albon p8/Alonso p9 it's p4/p5 so if anything both Aston and Williams have improved.

Alonso says car feels good, upgrades have worked and there is good correlation between the data and he thanks the guys at the factory for all the work they had to put.

Amr similar top speed to the Williams then so it shouldn't be too difficult to pass tomorrow. I agree with you that it will depend on Perez & Piastri who are behind and might be faster so i'm not bullish on a podium but good points will be in play at the very least.

if we trust those top speed numbers and we also delete the ferraris from the comparison due to them running a compromised low downforce setup due to their issues, aston have decent top speed, only 5km from redbulls. they definitely improved that since the start of the season (which might have unbalanced the car and caused other issues, but its an improvement for sure). it doesn't seem to be anymore the bahrain amr23 that forced fernando to overtake in impossible places due to lack of top speed, so it will be interesting to check the top speeds at Monza as well to confirm the trend .
