Generally you need your tyres to dissipate motion energy into heat. That is not only done at the tread. The whole tyre deforms and works under loads including the side walls and that makes the tyre heating up. One way of doing it is running with very low pressure. Sky was showing slow motions yesterday where the tyre was seen to almost wobbble like a dragster tyre. Obviously not as extreme as that but impressive to watch.

Vettel set his Q1 time with the hard prime tyres!

wow, rain for Q2 and all cars go out on the track at once.

Webber stays on slicks and all others go back into the pits for inters.

Webbers puts 1.5 s on Vettel with inters

Barichello goes galactic with slicks. Time is running out.

Unbelievable tyre roulette!! The optimum tyre changed three times during the segment.

phew!

Q2 - Looks like Button and Hamilton gained time on the dry parts and then nursed it through the wet parts (where we saw Alsonso & Kimi go off)

... and to add to that, cars that are hard on their tyres put more heat into them, which is good for quali. The Brawns seem to make their tyres last longer during the race so it would seem they put less energy into them. Unfortunately that means they are colder during cold weather and short stints, ie quali.

Congrats to Webber for the first pole! I'm curious how the weights will be. Horner said Webber was lighter.

OK, Webber fans, your boy is on pole. Let's see if he can get that first win. Red Bull "team orders" anyone?

Good work by McLaren, progressing so well without testing.

Here's hoping Sutil does well. Rain could help.

Let's see the car weights first.. You gotta admit though Webbo did seem like doing a pretty good job at it.
Here's hoping the Ferrari boys are the heaviest!

Alonso continues to dissapoint, both Mclarens and Button(and others) set a fast time after Alonso spun off so it really wasnt the track conditions.

Great lap by Webber... will be very interested in the fuel weights.

Poor Rubans, even when he does well he is caught out by bad luck, dirty side of the grid definatly wont help at the start tomorrow.

Button puld it all together t the end.

Is Vettle heavy? It seems he has been struggling wih the last corner, Coca-cola all weekend.

Saw alot of sparks out of Lewis' car, could be heavy.

Strong lap from Kovi.

Anyone noticed five of the top seven cars have a Mercedes Benz engine at the back? That's not bad for Merc's home GP.

Gotta say Sutil did great job in 7th with that fuel on board. He beat the two Ferrari cars fair and square!!!! =D> =D> =D> =D>

It doesn't look good for Brawn, being that light. I predict a 1-2 for RedBull.

All the doubters were saying Maclaren were on fumes.

8)

Look at Webber! He has the advantage in strategy if Rain falls between Lap 15 and lap 20. He will have a disadvantage only If it rains Before lap 15..

I bet Barichello and Button Will be lost in the mid pack after their pit sops.. I can see it now..

So my Guess is Webber, Vettel and Hamilton on Podium.
