Im confident that mercs next car will be a decent step up from what we have today. The real unknown is what rbr and others will be able to find next year. In the case of rbr they wete able to find gobs of performance in the offseason by shedding weight and finding out how to run closer to the ground. I do think it’s unrealistic to expect them to find the same gains for 2024. So everything points to convergence most likely. If i were to guess rbr will still be ahead in March but not as far ahead as they are now. The shocking thing for me is that noone has managed to catch them by now even with them shutting down development of the rb19 a long time ago.

Always a ceiling. I think RB are near that, so as you say, convergence is most likely. It’s just how close. It might go dominant (22/23) > arms length (24) > pretty much equal (25) > new regulation (26). That’s the kind of thing I’m expecting

According to Newey, Red Bull are nowhere near a performance ceiling with their concept.

This is always a curious statement for me. "Close to or near the ceiling". How does one know it's close to ceiling? Just because a car is leading? How does one know which car concept has more or less potential. Every team has differing car philosophies when it comes to aero and vehicle dynamics concept. So depending upon which team has better understanding of the regulations and their own concept, they are bound to make progress and extract more performance. How long can that happens, also depends on how much the other teams are missing or messing. If Mercedes, Ferrari or McLaren doesn't find the right path and develop better understanding of the regulations than RB and bring better solutions than RB, then they are bound to be chasing for a long time to come, regardless of RB hitting the performance ceiling.

They would say that woudn't they :D =D>

only if they are behind merc, mclaren and ferrari next year we will hear Horner say "well they all copied us, and we hitting end of the dev curve. Also we had little wind tunnel time so we not surprised to be behind"

Would he say that for show in a private conversation to a friend? Talking about Newey here

The fact that MCL made such a big leap in one go, sort of indicates we are nowhere near the performance ceiling of this concept. Still significant gains to be made imho. But design convergence was inevitable

you can thank the budget cap for that. they cant test and bring new parts in like they did in 2020.

Hamilton had a set of mediums puncture and used a set of hards. Not ideal for the allocation

They look quick though, on either tire.

I'm not so sure about that given this senario.

Pirelli has asked the FIA to clean the Brazilian Grand Prix circuit after screws triggered punctures and stones left Formula 1 drivers feeling like they had been "sand blasted".

Wasn't Russell running less downforce all weekend? If the rain washes the track, that's bad for him no?
