Presumably, the track is prepared to FIA specification? Which makes the inspection covers nonsense of FP1 the FIAs primary fault?
Not really. You can't test for everything until you have the F1 cars on the track itself. We have to accept that sometimes, things aren't entirely 100% predictable. I assume the FIA hasn't overlooked this, but simply just underestimated how much lifting force an F1 car generates (especially since 2022).
You can test the weld integrity and on this pic they look conspicuously absent.

Mercedes block move to reprieve Sainz
It was revealed that it was Mercedes who refused to countenance such a reprieve and the reason given was the close battle between the silver arrows and Ferrari for second in the constructors’ championship. At stake is around $20m difference in prize money awarded to the team finishing the season in second and the one in third place.

P.s hopefully it will bite back Mercedes in the future as they did with the ‘I’m damaging my back through porpoising’ performance.
It just shows again…Mercedes is about business not about sportsmanship…

1. There was nothing to block, it is not allowed by FIAs rules.
2. I don't remember the outpouring of support from teams and fans when Mercedes were cheated out of WDC by FIA failing to implement their own rules.

Strange.

Once again shoddy journalism or sensationalism rears its ugly head. The teams were not canvassed about this but were asked by journalists/media after the fact if they would have allowed dispensation for Sainz, to which Merc responded they Could have protested it. This was then reported as fact, including here, that merc blocked it when that was not the case.
Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regards to matters requiring thought. The less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them; while on the other hand, to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgement upon anything new. - Galileo..

Seems that in fact the covers were welded to the cast drain structure, but the structure itself pulled up off the buried piping. They used epoxy glue to fix all the drain structures to the track and/or piping.

Could it be that the front wing lifted the edge of the cover, and then the floor of the car struck the lifted edge which then caused the concrete and holding structure to fail? Meaning it wasn’t suction that broke the concrete, but the striking undercarriage. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry if this has already been covered.

The current front wings are really far away from the track surface

Something to consider, it is notoriously difficult to weld cast iron. The heat causes significant tension and cracking. It's possible, if not highly likely, that if it was welded the welds cracked.

They have raised minimum pressures overnight which will probably reduce grip. The length of DRS zone has been increased by 50m overnight as well

Pirelli is probably the worst supplier of any kind of goods for any sport in the world. 13 years and there isn't a year where they have haven't produced a mediocre grand prix.
