Motorsport-total report that the deal was struck in April/may via handshake. We heard about Lewis meeting with Elkann at Monaco GP weekend at the time but it was brushed off as the usual contract negotiation tactics (look for competitive offers elsewhere as a bargaining chip)

Apparently it was all signed on paper in August.

I believe Lewis and his management decided 31st Jan because that was date he'd see Toto Wolff in person before the season starts.

If that’s true, why wait for 2025 ?

Sainz contract to end of '24 so Lewis signed a 1+1 but no intention to fulfill the 2nd year option.. just merc didnt know that. If Lewis told Merc he wanted only 1yr extension because he's off in a year then Merc wouldn't be very inclined to give Lewis a £50m contract for 2024 to be honest

Althought considering that Hamilton put out a statement with Toto claiming that he wasn’t negotiating with anyone else it seems odd.

I was expecting the foundations of this deal were made a long time ago, however I don't think it was confirmed until recently, the Ferrari announcement was rather bland and way too simple. Or Vasseur and Elkann wanted to play it so it looks like it was agreed in 2-3 days to maximise the element of surprise for the whole public, well outside the F1 world. Will be interesting to learn of all the details, it was definitely long in the making, whether it was fully agreed months ago or it was up to Lewis to give his confirmation and activate the contract later.

In fact, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton formally expire in 2026, with the Monegasque holding the option to renew for another two years. The objective is to wait for the feedback from the first car of the new regulatory cycle and then the future will be decided from there, but this is a discussion that will be valid not only for Ferrari. On an economic level, the Monegasque's contract is an 'upward' contract , with a fixed base that will increase from year to year. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, will earn - between salary, sponsors, image rights, bonuses and more - around 100 million dollars a year

Good attitude if true, the only appropriate attitude in this situation to be honest. Of course, it's all smiles on the outside, but he will be in a mood to run circles around Hamilton on track. He will need that mentality if he wants to come out on top against Hamilton.

The change in stock price was related to the fiscal summary end of Q4 which came out at 12.15 CET yesterday

the previous summary released caused Ferrari's price to spike a similar amount (~ +10%) so it's very normal
