I'm hearing that Ferrari tries to obtain Pierre Vas from Red Bull. The press mentions that he had a bigger impact on the last two Red Bull cars than even Andrian Newey. What is your opinion of Mclaren getting him first?
We've picked our team and they are doing a good job so far with Marshall and Sanchez probably just starting to get their teeth into their roles and hence there is more to come, so I think it is unlikely.

Everyone was the next Newey (at some point): Peter Prodromou, James Key, Dan Fallows, ...

Individuals alone don't do anything.

An erudite manager I worked with noted....always appoint someone that can do the task you're appointing for better than you can.
Further, if you've done this well , then if you step back away from it for however long a period, it should all still function correctly, making you look great

The mechanical package under Key was never the issue. The issue was him ignoring PP and forcing his own flawed aero concepts onto the car. Lando complained year after year that the car behaved differently from corner to corner, lap to lap and was ignored.

TBH, I think it took Daniel being unable to live with with the car to highlight how serious the issues were and force Zak to restructure the team without Key.
Makes u wonder how Daniel might have lived in that 2023 McL.👀
I think maybe the days of engineers being sole technical directors are over. Aero is now Key (pun intended) and therefore Aerodynamicists need to ultimately take the lead, hence McLaren now having 2 aero TD's. Key was a casualty of this decision
You still need someone to be in overall charge of the engineering processes, to ensure each department is hitting targets and a healthy discussion can be had about the development direction and ideas to resolve problems.

Two key things for a successful F1 car are
1. Aero platform and packaging.
2. Mechanical platform.

Get either wrong and you'll be in for a world of hurt. Zak Brown has made some critical decisions about the structure of the team and hiring people like Rob Marshall. Marshall and the others who've joined will have an impact on the in season development of the 2024 car, with an eye on the 2025 car. They won't be sitting around twiddling their thumbs until McLaren switches development over to the 2025 car.

Odds of this happening are close to 0. There is going to be panic. No matter what we see...

The team seem confident so lets see what steps they've taken on the launch spec.

Honestly I'd be more nervous if the car was massively different, they have a lot more places to find time than with the aero

It's 8:38 GMT. The car is MCL38 so I guess they are using 38 for the minutes.

Italian journalist confirmed it on Twitter. I still don't know if it will be a full presentation at the MTC or just an online release.

I have no idea why but aren’t they having a filming day tomorrow with the new car?

*edit* just read that the launch is at Silverstone tomorrow- would be strange to there at Silverstone and then not to put it on track?
Just a fan's point of view
