Deg looks good on these long runs.
yeah very good. Came out again and did another few laps in low 1.37.2-3 and now back to mid-high 1.37s on the same set of c3s that are now on 26 laps or approaching half race distance. That's good.
36+ laps on those tires, last lap still 1.37.6

I'd call Day 1 successful for that alone. Obviously we don't know fuel loads but hard to remember a Ferrari being that light on tires at Bahrain. Certainly not the original SF-23.

That’s actually really good and a massive improvement from any SF-23 iteration already now. Let’s hope for more.
Looked like the team has done extensive setup work and the car kept getting better throughout the day.

Laps have been uploaded on F1 tempo.

We can compare the SF 24 first lap times with the SF 23. Already there is a huge improvement in the corners when you have to rely on the tyres, like turn 5-6 and turn 11 and 13.

Without DRS open the SF 24 seems quicker in the straights. With DRS open slower in the main straight but i think there was a lot of wind last year that a huge positive impact on top speeds.

It's pretty surprising, given that SF23 was running with a low-df RW last year.

Sainz lap was far from perfect.

Last year laptimes were also going up quickly, even mini runs (massive deg). I don't recall if temperature were different from this year.

Of course we don't know fuel loads, but in Day 2 2023 Leclerc laptimes were going up by a full second after 10 laps. You can check on F1 tempo.

There are completely logical explanations to long tuns, pace, extra low deg etc. I'm not sure people would accept them in any case
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

What's your view on today, Vanja? Don't be shy :D

Personally the car looks to be a huge improvement already over the SF 23. I have no idea how it will compare to the RB 20 which i think is easily the fastest car, but that was to be expected, especially at the start of the season.

Congruent to your comment, one of Ferrari's biggest problems last year was the unpredicability of the car as the fuel burned and the car became lighter. I would hope they would be evaluating if this is still occuring.

I'm very happy about the deg, Ferrari ran with lots of fuel and used tyres, everyone acting like RB will be seconds faster per lap in the race are just reading too much into it. Will they be far ahead, sure, but not this far and I'm fairly confident about it. Let's see if they can find a good setup here tomorrow and continue to build on a strong first day

Yeah, the sad part about this whole thing is that the team has seemingly done a good job. The car is visibly easier to drive and tire deg seems not only ok, but is a strength of the car relative to the competition I think.

If only we didn't waste a whole year.
