McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What's that floor mount rod? Pitot tubes?

Beam wing modification. The upper element is missing.

pure speculation, either the flow vis run showed the upper element wasnt working or they wanted try without to see the effect, interesting that landos speed traps were consistent lower then piastri, dont know if he ran the whole time without

Beam wings are now track specific depending on requirements. This is testing, they will test all sorts of configurations throughout the 3 days

Was McLaren's F1 car actually worth hiding?

Nice view from Gary Anderson about MCL38 and comparison with MCL60.

I personally don’t put much stock in what Gary Anderson says. He tends to make predictions quite often which most of the aero/f1 engineers don’t do and most times he’s wide off the mark.

Nice view?
Personally I don’t think he was very complementary about the new car…?
Just a fan's point of view

To be fair, this only shows a weakness in T10. Considering they are constantly losing more and more time as the laptime progresses, this hints towards a very conservative deployment mapping in the McLaren.

It was not a serious performance run, and it should not be overanalyzed imo.

What is positive from today is the car reliability. After the brake issues and performance target miss from last year this MCL38 looks like a solid base to build on.
