For those interested in the speeds and modes, looks like we kept a lid on the pace vs Chip and Pin RB

And some upgrades already. Or it is compared to last year.

If quali mode is strat 2 what the heck is strat 1 for?
Strat 1 is the mode we are not supposed to talk about. It's the Last Lap Lando-mode!

Where did he say that?
He was talking to Sky at FP1.
"So far so good, everything according to plan."
"Too early to read into times."
"Based on testing we feel we will be competitive this weekend."
"This car was primarily developed in the last wind tunnel - we moved into new wind tunnel after the break - so new tunnel will be for the upgrades."
"I think it will be second part of the year when we will feel at maximum potential." (he was talking about new signings).
Thanks. I was aware the new tunnel was switched on around the time of Zandvoort and that the MCL60 would not have any tunnel time after that. I'm surprised that the parts going in from late August onwards are the upgrades.

Just what have they got cooking for the next 3 months...
I'll say I'm surprised by that too. Perhaps that's why this modification is so close to last year's in terms of aerodynamics.

Just for reference, I checked the times in FP1/FP2/FP3/qualy that the team did in Silverstone 2023.

FP1:
Norris P8
Piastri P10

FP2:
Norris P14
Piastri P9

FP3
Norris P12
Piastri P17

Qualifying
Norris P2
Piastri P3

I am not saying it is going to go that way, just that McLaren does not push in FP.

Messed up his middle sector. No biggie. Oscar messed up S3 too. Purple in S2. Car is rapid

Zak Brown talked about Mercedes might be having their engine a little higher while he thinks Ferrari and Red Bull are not going full mode yet. What do you think of Mclaren so far?

Race pace on softs looks good to me. It’s extremely tight between 4 teams as expected. If this is our “worst” track then the season is going to be a cracker. We are there or thereabouts

Second sector looks mighty. Bodes well for fast tracks like Australia and Japan.

And deg on those softs was extremely good. Not quite VER pace but same deg profile. Seems the FER and AM have more deg than us after 8 laps or so

Still not quite racing conditions. But now people should probably start calming down a bit after that overreaction of Oscar's gap to Charles last day of testing.

It was clearly a unnatural run by Oscar and the gap was not real.

Piastri had a cracking soft tire race sim.

Way that stint went I'm very excited to see how his race pace has progressed. I'm guessing he'll annoy Norris a lot more this season.
