Anyone know why Max was apologizing to GP?
Not sure if there's more context to it, I listened to whole Q3 and Max said "I don't think it's enough but it's a decent lap" after his last lap. Then the broadcasted radio played

On Servus TV it was revealed that Marko won 50 euros from GP. GP had bet on Max not getting pole - a sorry then makes sense

Marko always wins these kind of bets in seems. Lesson number 1: Never bet against Verstappen, never. I've been saying that for years.

I recall something like Horner and Marko had a bet about if Max will start on the front row in Vegas, Horner said he will and Marko said he won't. Then Max said never bet against him or something like that :D

Perez: We have some work to do but what matters is tomorrow, and we are on the right side of the grid so we should be able to have a strong start. A lot of teams saved the hard tyre but we saved those softs and that means we will be on different strategies out there.

It looks like S-S-H or S-H-S strategy.

My bet is SSH. They ran that last year, and Bahrain is a race where you can easily have a mid-race to late-race safety car.

It's taken 2 years, but the car actually looks decent in low speed corners.

indeed. remains to be seen how good it is in medium / high speed. At Bahrain quali they were weaker than Ferrari in this corner type, but it could be a matter of setup

I’m sure it was about 0.8 to Ferrari and 0.9 to Merc last year on race pace, so should be good to be close to those times.

RBR must be confident having burned up a extra set of hards for the main race

It's hard to capture differences in track condition (track temp, wind) but interesting nonetheless:

Image

He made up a lot of time in T1-T3, and seems to have a bit more straight line speed between T3-T4 (+5km/h) and between T10-T11 (+4km/h), but a little bit slower in the medium speed corners. The laptime itself is 5.3 tenths quicker. If you remove about 1 tenth for the slip stream, you get around 4.3 tenths faster. This actually seems slower than expected considering that it would mean the combined development of 2023 and winter of 2023 yielded only 4 tenths. :wtf:

I think there's a bit more to be found or it's just the new car as deliberately moved to a different aero window that is more efficient with an expectation of recovering the downforce with upgrades. Sometimes it takes a step backwards to move 2 steps forwards. With that said, I could be reading too much into it. This has never been a qualifying car. Maybe the low track temps just didn't suit it.

Max got lucky creating a tow from an MCL at the start of his run!

He did the same thing in Q1 and Q2.

"We realised here that our superior performance was no longer," Marko begins to tell German Motorsport-Magazin.com. "We found out that the track temperature was five to six degrees lower and could not translate this one-to-one to the performance of the tyres. We worked on that for two practice days and eventually the Max factor came."

It is always the tires.

I hope Perez is satisfied with his quali performance! If he tries to push any harder thinking he underperformed he will fall into a hole like last season.
