It didn't use to be like this and you don't need to go back to the Schumacher and Todt era. I remember during the Alonso era (apart from rare exceptions such as AD10) race operations were honestly quite good and it was one of the reasons Ferrari could fight for the championship with cars that lacked pace, apart from driver skill and reliability. Strategy was inventive and bold, good tyre management helped Alonso jump places during the race and pitstops were decent. I'm not sure what changed that made them become poor in those areas over the years.
Domenicalli was running the team relatively well on operations side. Engineering was somewhat flawed, not just in terms of concept design, but also in terms of updates. Later engineering became better once all simulation tools were updated (since Montezemolo did not want to spend enough resources on them even after testing restrictions were introduced) After Domenicalli, there were smaller issues when Arrivabene was TP, but it was mostly coming from refusing to give Vettel the necessary priority after it was clear Kimi was no longer at the top of his game to compete for WCC (which was already clear since race 6-7 of every season).

Epic fails of 2022 and to some extent in 2023 have probably not happened for more than 30 years, in a time when F1 was almost completely different to what it is now. Monaco 2021 was also one of those embarrassing moments and failures in race preparation and there were more in that 19-21 period...

I'm not superstitious but LEC seems to be really unlucky.. too many times now
Ferrari is one of the worst teams in F1 in terms of on track operations, unfortunately.

I'm not sure who or what changed that made them become poor in some of those areas over the years.
I know. The MSC / Todt era was a dream team that was working perfectly. Just an amazing oiled machine.

The MSC Todt era was the equivalent of the current RBR Verstappen era. Well oiled machine where even --- turned to gold. Crazy strategies worked because it was Schumi, but everyone played their part and there was an air of invincibility about everything the team did

I dont want to sounds conspiratory, but I get the feeling that Sainz just has better connections with the media in general. He is good friends with Lawrence Baretto and Karun Chandok. Brundle is a good friend of Sr and I believe Naomi is also a family friend. They always speak favorably about him if you notice, to the point where some of them (not Brundle) constantly try to discredit Leclerc.

Still has the medium downforce spec mounted. I'm sure this will change sometime this weekend looking at everyone else's choice. Even though this wing with a single element beam wing was my prediciton I tend to agree with Vanja's prediction of the Spa 2023 wing.

Last year they were OK on straights and clearly lacked downforce in the race despite the bigger wing. Leclerc still lost more on straights than he gained in corners on Perez in Q. And that was Perez... But back in the race, it was clear right away the car was setup too high and floor downforce was down. When this happens floor drag drops too, which may have made them look better than they should have been on straights.

The 2024 mid-level wing is clearly bigger and I don't think it would be a good fit, especially since all other Top 5 teams brought lower drag wings than last year. You want to help your tyres in the race, but there's still 5 very long section where they go 250+ kmh and they spend a lot of time there... Not 100% sure, but I don't see how they could afford to run this wing now. Ironically, I think 2022 mid-low V wing would be perfect on this track and several others this year

I think if they steadily continue to upgrade and refine the car, they'll be able to win races after summer break and we'll have a 2019 style season.

Field behind red bull is tight, with merc and McLaren. Also, Mclaren sound very confident for this weekend, how do you guys think ferrari stack up against them?

Ferrari was fastest in medium and high speed corners last weekend and didn't lose too much to RB on straight in Q - and actually were faster on straights in the race. The car should be good in Jeddah if they don't mess up the setup.

Massively positive. They know they can’t match max, but they know where they need to upgrade the car to get close or surpass him. Thats really great to hear
