Well his condition has probably worsened after yesterday. Appendicitis can often start with mild symptoms like a normal stomach bug. Diffuse stomach pain, fever, vomiting etc. But if the inflammation increases and you get peritonitis the pain can become very sharp and localised, especially during movement (5G braking would probably feel like getting stabbed in the gut).
From my own experience, if it didn't burst he should be fit enough to race in a week or twos time, next race in Australia is 20 days away. Really didn't see this coming at all. From a WCC perspective it would make more sense to put Hulkenburg in the seat. I am sure Haas would release him in exchange for Bearman and a little bag of cash.
