How is Fernando going to "braketest" Russell when he was a very considerable distance ahead before the corner? Is this Monza 2006 all over again? :lol: Just ridiculous

Saw on twitter that Alonso was inspecting his throttle after the race. Maybe when he tried to press down on the throttle it felt strange so decided to hit the brake again to ensure he made the corner okay? Does seem like between his two brake movements he was trying to accelerate. Hope the stewards get to the bottom of it as if it was intentional then he needs to have his result removed.

As i said, when he braked the first time, Russell was miles behind him. Russell had plenty of time to react to that and wasn't anywhere near close enough for that to be considered a danger.

Had Russell been much closer it would have been a different issue. But he wasn't. Russell had plenty time to react, but didn't. Not reacting properly isn't Alonsos fault.

Edit: Not saying he won't be punished though. The Stewards might very well think the braking was completely unnecessary. But it's my clear opinion that Russell could have avoided this easily, but didn't because he was desperate for a last-lap overtake.

This is Mercedes' doing 100%. De la Rosa said a team most likely protested. I very much doubt stewards were "onto this right away" on their own.

He was in drs range so he wasn’t miles behind. If I recall he was about 0.5sec back. Considering the speed they were going that is definitely not miles behind.

Alonso is always playing games on the track. Let’s see what the stewards say.

"Miles behind", sigh... He was within half a second and Alonso brake checked him going into a high speed corner. So easy to sit here and claim he had oodles of time to react with the benefit of hindsight, in reality it's not that easy. Besides, I don't think anyone is saying the intention was to cause him to go into the back of Alonso, but rather to throw him off with dirty air and compromise his exit. Nonetheless that is very dangerous in a blind high speed corner.

Half a second in race distance isn't the same as half a second reaction time, unless Alonsos car somehow magically comes to a complete halt instantaniously the moment he touches the brakes. A brake tap will slow his car down, but it won't make Russell collide with him within half a second.

Russell had way more than half a second to react. This is clearly visible in the video. This was entirely avoidable by Russell.

Decided to watch Russell onboard again, and now I'm actually in doubt. From Alonso rear view camera, it looks like George had time to react. But from Russell onboard (with Audio this time, first time i watched was without) it was indeed perhaps a bit closer than i initially thought. So maybe a penalty is appropriate.

The Race article implied that it wasn't but maybe they didn't know.

ALO doesn't typically do dirty things that could have any impact on his car. So i dunno

Russel not crash cause had to brake to not crash in the car at the front. He crushed because he Lost the car. Once again alonso masterclass.
