20 second penalty, drops to 8th. Not enough imo
It should have been zero, since he did nothing.

A driver is in the middle of the track at a very fast blind corner! What are they waiting for?? Just put out the red flag…
Stewards do not decide on a red flag, that is race control.
Yeah whoever it is then! Just put out the red flag instantly…
Pointless. Double yellows would have been enough. It's the sort of thing they're for.

Is on board footage of Verstappen's brief race available somewhere?

Will every driver have to push to the last in Monaco now? Short sighted penality imo!
“Pushing” has got nothing to do with it, braking 100m early for a blind corner has, it’s just too dangerous in an F1 car but on a street circuit it’s lunacy. When I first saw the replay what came to mind was was “brake test”, seems the stewards thought the same.

In my opinion, Alonso did try to mess with Russell's rhythm, but he didn't force avoiding action.
Russell is at the limit and loses it in the dirty air.

20s is embarrassing. Stewards will never learn. Alonso soiling his career for a place in a race is even worse, he better apologize to GR in private at least and apologize for the Stewards too.

That Alonso is back to his old self I see. Pulling shady moves when under pressure.

He didn't brake test Russell, that's the issue with this judgement.
He wanted to force Russell to run in his dirty air through the corner.

Will a driver get a penalty if their ers clips on a straight? What about lifting and coasting?

How many instances of chicken have we seen around DRS detection zones?

Strange penalty at least. RUS was apparently just sleeping and was caught by surprise. There was plenty of space between ALO and RUS, so you cannot call this a brake test. I think it's bad for racing when you are not allowed to be creative with your defense. If you want a risk free job, go somewhere else.

The fact that in dirty air the car behind loses loads of df in a fast blond corner, you might as well call it a brake check. Russell was pretty much at the braking point when Alonso suddenly went from 0.5s away to nothing.
It's one thing when Russell was prepared to he 0.2s away from Alonso into that turn, but when you suddenly and uncharacteristically brake early for that particular turn l, that is not on. Don't forget even they need at least 0.1s to 0.2 to react to a sudden change. Recall baku 2018 when hartley did the same thing to gasly and he had to veer violently off. Fortunately there was run off and it was a slow right hander.

As you said, there was plenty of space between them. Plus, there was another clue that tells you that the car in front is harvesting, that Russel just simply missed, when he was still waaay behind - the three big flashing red lights on the back of the Aston Martin.

A race ban would've been nice seen as Alonso has form for pulling this dirty move. Alonso displaying his unsporting character as usual by pretending his brake check was due to throttle issues, good on the FIA for refusing to buy into his BS this time and hand out strong penalty.

Remember Hamilton lifting going through Eau Rouge in 2017 to hurt Vettel when the corner was easy flat?

Would that now be a penalty?
