To assume that relevant data will not be collected is an affront and insult to the creative minds and intelligence of the engineers.
The people who worte the rules would have a good idea as to what data can be collected under such condition, and deamed it reasonable. All the other teams are free to have publicity events whenever they choose. This is a complete non-issue

I'm sure it's possible to come up with a total dummy tire that is useless as hell for anything beyond leisure cruises, and anything beyond a handful of laps. Maybe the special tire they have on is already the best solution to the problem...maybe they could do better. Who knows?

This one's easy. FIA just needs to control telemetry info that goes into pitlane and that no data is recorded on the car. With SECU it should not be much problem.

I don't understand all the fuss here. There's paragraph on the rules that permits such runs and with controlled tyre it would be less useful than a straigh-line test.
Obviously Ferrari would use this promo-run to give Luca some time to get used to the F60 controls and KERS or whatnot, but otherwise it is not a proper test session.

With the 100KPH FIA limit it is obvious that Ferrari is testing a new pit lane speed limiter, they are always looking for new and creative ways to circumvent the rules and cheat in general.

Donskar definitely muddied the water, but with the most irrelevant facts he could find. What does the 2 week break have to do with Ferrari trying to cheat at Fiorano... again.

And I think it's pretty obvious that Mclaren were testing their new drive quickly out of paint system!

No, the paint commercial was clearly an extension of their flo-vis antics on track. That commercial was instrumental to them getting back on pace... clearly!

It's funny how only a few days ago whoever branded a team or driver "cheater" or "liar" was just a nasty person who allowed their emotional attachment to another team or driver overcome their ability to conduct themselves with grace, dignity or to be polite among others..

It would be very interesting to put this whole thing into perspective by, say, listing which other teams and how many times over the last couple of years organized similar "promotional" events on the streets of various cities or venues around the world... Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could provide us with this information.

Williams did some driving in their FW31 earlier in the year for promotional purposes but used a launch-spec car (that never actually saw a race event). I believe Mclaren have done the same. As long as Ferrari do that there should be no quarrels.

ISLAMATRON would also have you believe that this was Flavio testing the Crash-The-Other-Car device:

Question to Ferrari fans- is it frequent that they announce drives for promotional purposes on their website, also clearly stating who the driver will be and which car they will be using?
